Session 29: A Trap Set Report

General Summary

Indalell had planted the false information and the scales were prepared to execute their plan. A troop of city guard whom could be trusted were assembled as Indalell took the form of Lord Curunis to be escorted towards the teleportation circles. Adalon took the point upon his warhorse Opal, Ayrien and his Squire Neia flanking. Long Wei and Ismaril moved on the sides and A'lar stayed among the gaurds. Taking the path past the gardens, it was the most direct and most narrow, most likely for the councilst ambush. Sure enough as they reached the end the trap was sprung. From both ends of the path way Council Guard emerged, also to either side from the hedge mazes more emerged, the fight was upon them.   Adalon spun Opal and moved to block their right flank from the attackers, supported by Long Wei. Ayrien and Neia moved ahead to confront the guards before them while Ismaril shifted back to deal with the second group of flankers and the guard emerging from their rear. The sounds of battle echoed in the early hours of the morning. A'lar sprung to action summoning an illusionary wall of fire to protect the column from the rear. The entirety of the council guards convinced of the deadly inferno before them moved with haste around the garden, A'lar had bought the Scales time. Long Wei and Adalon downed an enemy but not without Long Wei incurring several wounds and being forced to withdraw. The fight ahead began with Ariens favor, but soon began to turn. Neia was cut down, and leaving his love to Stand mostly alone(she still had Veara), Adalons magic would flare and he would teleport beside Ayrien to deal with the foe ahead. The City guard fired volleys of arrows wounding several of the enemy, including Lady Curunis. Lady Curunis in response floated over the flames and her psionic powers resonated in her voice as she commanded the City Watch to turn on the traiterous scales. Compelled by her magic the City Guard fell upon the Scales and Indalell made his escape still disguised as Lord Curunis.   Opal supported by A'lar and Long Wei's throw stars held the narrow gap in the flanks. The Spell upon the city guard was broken as Adalon rallied them, but he and Ayrien continued to fight a stalemated fight with the Councilists before them, neither side gaining any ground. The few second bought by A'lar slipping away. Ismaril unable to reach to flying Lady Curunis hurled blasts of psionic energy with limited effect, but enough to distract the Lady Curunis and her hold on the City Watch would falter. Lady Curunis would scoop up the disguised Indalell and get him across the flames, landing as her flight magic faded. The fight to the South was growing more dire as the delayed Council Guard arrived, overwhelming Adalon and Ayrien they would begin to fall back as Adalon prepared to make a last stand to buy his friends time. Idalell would strike out with a palmed dagger to strike the bewildered Lady Curunis, Ismaril leaping thru the illusionary flames would have her rapier drive home, the Ladies eyes going wide before she slumped over. Indalell would frown, "We wanted her alive." Using his healing gloves to patch the near fatal wound delivered by an indifferent Ismaril, he would hoist the ladies body up to where Councilists could see her his blad pressed to her throat. Ismaril would shout, "We have both your Lords, surrender or we will slit her throat!" Her voice booming and laced with her psionic terror, the councilsts would throw down their weapons and surrender to the Scales.   This was a partial session and we are taking some time off to fully convert to second edition, till next time!
