Session 66: Dealing with the Contingency Report

General Summary

With the Gate open the Scales strode forward. Seeming asleep upon a great pedestal in a room of horror and decay a shadowy beast would slumber. As Ismaril stepped closer one eye would open then the second, rising to its feet, the creatures enormity was evident. It however had no distinct shape, and each scale would later describe it differently. A great beastiel being in each telling, though tailored to each of their most innate fears. Its eyes would fixate on Ismaril and let out a chilling roar. "Run," A'lar would shout as the scales turned and sprinted thru the portal and across the bridge between the minds. The Beast would chase but not faster then the scales, it would roar some magical power, suddenly increasing in speed the heavy thudding sounds of its massive shadowy paws would loom in the minds of the scales as they burst thru the second portal into the mind of the Speaker of the Stars. With only a heartbeat to catch their breath, the beast would roar now into their foes mind.

The proximity to the terror would freeze the scales closest in place. Ayrien, Indalell, Longwei, and Adalon were suddenly paralyzed as their deepest fears made manifest before them. Ismaril would press forward her blade shimmering with psionic power as the beast's claws raked at her. A'lar would push forth what magic he could to keep his friends locked in fear from sustaining too much damage. Indalell regaining his sense would dart back thru the portal and begin to make his way back across the bridge to close the gateway. Imsaril would roll thru the beast next, to which it would swiftly follow. A'lar realizing it was only interested in Ismaril would cast an illusion upon himself to appear like the Dread. The other scales would rush back thru the portal, several catching the beasts furry as they emerged on the other side, "Get back!" Ismaril would shout as she dove back thru the portal to draw the beast to its intended target, hoping she could keep it busy long enough for Longwei and Indalell to reach the keys across the bridge.

The Nightmare would follow then growl turning between the two Ismarils, settling on a target it charged at the disguised A'lar. Landing with a devastating blow A'lar would stagger, clinging to his conciousness just barely he would cast a spell teleporting himself past the beast and stepping thru the portal. Ismaril would rush thru to the other side praying the Scales had reached the other side of the bridge. Ayrien seeing them emerge would shout to the others, "DO IT!" A frustrated roar would slowly fade as the portal closed and the scales suddenly woke. Eyes opening in the ritual circle where they had gone to sleep to enter their comrades mind.

Word would come of the Starspeakers comma, and eventual death. The Prince was elevated with little turmoil and his decree of equality for all dwarves within Clan Starlight quelled the growing unrest which had begun but a few days prior. While there was a tension in the city, and some resistance as dwarven servants and masters were working thru this new status, the coup was unknown by most and power was transfered peacefully. The scales would find a bewildered ambassador of Clan Sparkle, who did not believe this task could be accomplished so quickly. After some meetings with the Druidic order of Sparkle whom held the artifact the Scales needed an arrangment would be made for their taking of the artifact. With the first and second item secured the Scales would look to what was next, settling on persuing a scepter of magical power from the now conquered lands of Clan Sandtail. They would depart within a few days of the newly formed Western Confederation and the town of Drakesmouth.
