Session 54: Magmus the Unburnt Report

General Summary

Before them stood a lake of lava, it spewed steam and smoke into the air above. Jagged rocks above opened to the smoky skies of Tir Dalthak above. The lava began to ripple as a massive draconic form would emerge, easily 3 times the size of the largest dragon any of the Scales had ever seen would emerge from the lava. Its scales were crimson red, harkening to his Chromatic heritage, however other parts of his massive form looked like cooled magma or burning embers, his red eyes leveled on the Scales of Fate as he reared up out of the lava. "It has been some time since mortals have bested my maze and visited me," his voice would boom in the crater. A'lar would motion for the helmet, to which Adalon would hold it aloft. A'lar striding forward he would kneel and motion to the helm, "Great Magmus, we have journeyed to seek your wisdom and offer this gift to you that we may earn the boon of your time." Magmus would push thru the lava as if swimming in a pool, lava spilling out over the edges as he lurched over the side, his head lowers to regard the helmet, Adalon maybe being the size of a single fang. "There is a soul trapped here...most wonderful," Magmus would marvel. The helm would float from Adalons hand, flying over the Dragons shoulder and sinking to the lava pool. The helm would not melt but instead sink down likely onto the great dragons hoard. Pushing back into the pool so as not to loom over his guests Magmus would regard them, "Now then what wisdom do you seek?".

A'lar would explain the current plight on Ioban and would ask two question, if the world was better with or without dragons, and if mortals were capable of judging a dragon. "Dragons have failed in their primary purpose and in my estimations are not a boon to the world, it would be better without them...but mortals are not just judges of the actions of the dragons if you wish play judge before executioner." This would spur a heated discussion among the Scales mostly between Ismaril and A'lar to which seemed to amuse Magmus. He would venture to interrupt, "You see as the dragons are, complete beings, tied to no plane but to all of creation, it is impossible for them to care for the mortal world, they do not value it as mortals and can not see the value in the proper risk as there is no place for them after. If you wish to save the world and the dragons, you must change their nature, you must make them part of the cycle of the world, rather then the world itself as they are now." The notion of fundamentally altering dragon kind seemed even more daunting then previous tasks to the Scales. After thanking Magmus, he would offer to send them home which they gladly accepted. Rising up again his wings would draw back and with a single buffet he would throw the Scales up into the air and out of his crater home, as they flew up into the sky the world would shift and they would land softly upon the grounds of the Ary.

Setting to spending the rest of Autumn finalizing the alliance, Indalell and Longwei would set out to negotiate with the Argentisarth Dominion which had formed to the north. Indalells first efforst would be to stay strictly to a land trade between Moonfrost and the Dominion, however the Dominion was quick to bring up clan Aureates profiteering of their food stuff as well as the stolen land of the port. Longwei and Indalell would spend many days in heated negotiations, in the end finding an arrangment that made neither party happy, a sign of a good bargain struck. Moonfrost and the Dominion would exchange territories, Aureates food sales to the Dominion would be fixed for the next 3 years at a slight profit, and Aureate would share access to the port city, charging a modest tariff to imports made by members of the Dominion. Indallel would find his spare time spent with the princess of Moonfrost, fostering an ever warming relationship. Ayrien would spend time training as well as working with the captured Drake from Aelindon. Ismaril would return to Starlight to help her family there. Adalon would put his efforts into working with the budding military might of the Scales as well as coordinating with Sildenaer the combined military forces of the Pax Draconis. A'lar would study the giants ritual weapon, finding that most draconic creatures would not be impacted by the use of the scroll, but perhaps Draconiens would be. He would also study its potential for eliminating the Dracolich, finding that if the Soul Cage was in the scrolls blast radius it could be destroyed by the ritual.

With the coming of Winter, the Scales would depart for Clan Winds Furry, to bring an offer to join the Pax Draconis. The initial meeting would go well, A'lar offering to host a grand spectacle for the people of the City, which were a grim lot given the looming threat of destruction at their door from the army of the dead, and to feast the cities leaders. The scales would all take part in a grand play, highlighting the noble Heroine of Winds Furry, played by Ismaril, battling against a great undead evil that befalls her people, played by Indalell. A'lar would narrate this empic tale, as Ayrien and Adalon worked the stage and aided with costume changes. Longwei would arrive as the noble friend of Amarantine to answer Winds Furry's call in its most desperate hour of need. The play was a stunning success to the people of Winds Furry A'lar was mostly dissapointed with his work, but for putting the production on with only 12 hours notice and no rehersals, there was not much else to be expected. Atleast if the Pax Draconis were to fail, the Scales could always fall back to being a travelling performing troop. The night ended with final negotations to admit Winds Furry to the Pax Draconis, their only condition was to be granted the ritual to create their own Draconiens. With this concluded the Scales decided next would be to treat with the Vampire Lord of the Ruthenia which was leading this army against their allies.
