Session 27: Unexpected Allies Report

General Summary

The Scales agents reported in as expected, giving them the names of several lieutenants and other soldiers among the Amaranthine Guard which were actively working with the anti dragonists. Their meetings had grown less covert since the truce adopted the last month. While this would jeopardize that truce, uniting the city seemed the greater good. As the day drew nearer, Indallels agents at his bathhouse began to notice the high ranking Council Guards were getting very nervous and on edge. Any attempts to pry information from them was met with rather grumpy deflections. He took this as a bad sign. The morning of the coup, it was reported to him all the regulars and morning appointments from the Guard were absent, something was up. Heading for the Scales of Fates HQ, he would note an increased guard upon the gate he entered before finding the others having stayed the night ready to set their plan in motion. "Something is wrong," Indalell would explain. As A'lar and the others speculated to the meaning, Indalell would offer it would not be unreasonable that Lady A'varia was playing both sides and perhaps somthing had gone wrong. A'lar with a grim look would turn to Ismaril handing her a seashell. "Been to the beach recently?" she would smirk. A'lar would shake his head, "No, if something goes wrong, use this, it reaches my sister with a sending spell, I need to have a conversation before this kicks off." As he departed Ismaril would reach to the minds of her own retinue near by, "Follow him, make sure he is safe."

A'lar would make haste across town, Bliss at his side, they would not notice the pair of Moon Elf shadows, nor the shadows that were following them. Arriving across the city and making his way into his family estate his sister would see him immediately, "What are you doing here, aren't we about to have a coup?" she would frown. "Are you fucking us?" A'lar would demand coolly. A'varai would scoff, "What!? No, I am not sleeping with any of your friends!" A'lar would be of less bantering mood, "Clever deflection, but the Councilists are preparing for something, and it not above you to be playing both sides." She would look concerned, "While you are not wrong, I would not gain from betraying us in any way...but they have spies in all our houses as we have spies in theirs." A'lar would sigh and rub his head "Then we have a leak and this is going to go sideways..." A'varia would nod, "Well they will either believe Clan Starlight is distancing themselves from you and the others, or they know this is a trap and they will try to arrest both of you instead of just the Scales." A'lar would nod, "I have to get back." His sister would give him a hug, "Stay safe, you will be locking yourselves in with some of the most elite warriors on the continent intent on arresting you." As A'lar and Bliss made their way out bliss would punch A'lar in the arm, "Should trust family," she would scold before making their way back.

Upon their return Bliss would finally take note of their tail, and their tails tail. Stepping back inside the Scales Headquarters in the Ary, Bliss would let A'lar know, to which Ismaril would say, "Those were mine." A'lar would frown, "Not very trusting, nor observant if they were in turn followed." The Scales would discuss what to do within the next hour before the coup was to kick off. Given Ismaril had been spying on A'lar, they hoped that the Curunis Councilists would be more inclined to meet with Sildanaer, but they would still need to avoid being arrested before that meeting. Indalell offered to slip out in disguise, while A'lar cast an illusion to make the rest look like Starlight Guards, and the others still in the base could escape thru the bolt hole. The plan in action, they would make for the Starlight Embassy where Sildenaer would greet them and become concerned about this change of events. Indalell would sneak off into an over watch position to see what would happen next. "If they are moving against us first, perhaps we should enact a larger distraction to buy your militia friends more time and perhaps an easier time?" A'lar and the others would seem confused, "What do you mean?" Sildenaer would motion into an interior room, "We attack the Hatchery and secure it, it will pull their troops from the walls and gates, be more defensible than here, and not let them spring a trap on us." Longwei would nod, "We are few however in this, will we be able to hold long enough?" Sildenaer would smile and open a door to a larger gathering room, inside 12 large humanoid figures stood in full plate armor, crystalline scales reflected the light of the room in a rainbow like kaleidoscope, "I was only able to get a handful thru the portal over the last few days unnoticed, but this should help tip the tides." A'lar would squint a little, flashing back to the raid upon Castle Aelindon as Ismarils starlight guard vanished in the fight, and no ritual book was found. Adalon would look a bit confused, "I thought we had not yet cracked the ritual." "We hadn't" A'lar would shoot a look to Ismaril. Ismaril's lips would curve into a small smirk, Adalon not phased would continue, "Well I hope as allies we can share such information." Sildenaer would nod, "Yes I think so after this is done. Now then, we have a small escape tunnel that leads to the hatcheries, let us be underway."

The Scales, the Starlight Draconiens and Starlight Guard made their way thru the small tunnels and towards the hatchery. Indalell would notice the main gates closing as columns of troops made their way towards both the Embassy and the Scales Head Quarters. He would move out, changing shape from guard to guard catching bits of command and control words before he began to impersonate officers. From here he would begin to give erroneous orders and sow a fair bit of chaos among the defense, as the City Guard began to assault the gates and Drake Riders circled overhead. The assault on the Hatchery would find minimal defenses, letting several escape as the group moved further into the caves finding a narrow passage to defend/ The Draconiens formed the front bulwark while the Starlight guard set about to shift in and out and give reprieve as necessary. As the assault grew more intense, Indalell would note Lord Curunis departing with a large contingent of guards. At this he would set his plan in motion to move to the south gate and direct the guards there they were desperately needed in the Hatchery to help Lord Curunis. Back inside the hatchery the battle was going well as the Draconiens combined with Sildenaers psionic ability linking them were holding back the waves of Council Guards. Lord Curunis however would take his personal guard and make their way thru a hidden passage to get behind the Scales, being noted by A'lar as he emerged from a tunnel.

The Starlight guard in the rear would surge past A'lar to engage with the Council Guard and their Lord. The Scales would soon follow as battle was joined. Ivassars arrows would fly with deadly accuracy wounding both a Starlight Guard and their Captain Ismaril. Longwei would rush forward his fists a flurry of blows, the guards Armor being of no concern to him. Aryien and Adalon would move in unison striking at their foes. A'lar would call upon his magic to hasten his allies as the weight of the Guard's experience was bearing down upon them and ground was being lost. Sildenaer would leave the command of his troops, his psionic power linking to the Scales instead, each becoming aware of the others perceptions, their reaction improving as their friends would passivley alert them to threats. With this the Scales would gain the upper hand, Adalon would phase thru time to strike at Lord Ivassar with no luck, but this would break the guards lines as they moved to defend their lord, Adalons skill with the blade and Dragon Slayer armor turning many blows aside, but still wounds would be visible as droplets of blood slide from the lames of his armor. Ismaril would exploit the gap and send a psionic burst, assaulting the minds of their foes with true terror, paralyzing many in the horrors of their mind. Ayrien and Longwei would advance exploiting this opportunity to take down Ivassar and several of his men. With their Lord defeated the Guard would withdraw, only to find that the South gate had been compromised and the City Militia was pouring in, the Council Guard fighting a delaying action as they were quickly becoming overwhelmed. In the end, the Councilst Guard would surrender seeing they were surrounded and Drakes swirled overhead. Lord Curunis would be imprisoned, but Lady Curunis would not be found in the aftermath of the battle. Casualties were light on both sides thanks to Indalells work in sewing confusion and gaining them quick access. Among the Starlight guard there were many wounded but no casualties, tho a handful of the Starlight Draconiens perished in the fight. The City itself would burst into a variety of riots and protests, street conflicts erupting between various factions of the city as the common folk took to the streets over the coup. The City Guard would go to work restoring order after securing the Ary.
