Session 74: Into the Ruins of Tallaine Report

General Summary

Returning to the new tower of High Sorcery to meet with Kathlynn the Scales would undertake their final preparations. Once ready Kathlynn would open a portal into the tower of Necromancy of the old magical city. As the scales walked theyw ould start to brush aside robes, coats, and other garments before emerging from a wardrobe into what appeared to be a fine bedroom. A spark of energy would coalesce and begin to charge, "You are not the headmaster!" it would declare preparing to blast them with a lightning bolt. A'lar would put his hands up, "No no, but we were sent by the Lady Kathlynn!" The Spark would calm slightly, "Ah...it is good to know she lives...what have the headmaster of this place?" Ismaril would shrug to the floating ball of energy, it would seem to nod in response. "Why are you here then?" the ball would ask, its voice slightly distorted from the charge that made up its being. "Well we were sent to collect some items to take them away from this place," A'lar would explain. "You are thieves?" the spark would say sharply. "No ofcourse we aren't thieves," A'lar would scoff, "We were sent remember. Seemingly satisfied the entity which would identify itself as Spark would go on to explain the current state of the tower to the best of its knowledge from being trapped in this room. "Why are you trapped in here?" Adalon would ask. "I don't have hands and the door is locked," Spark would explain simply. "That would make it hard," Ismaril would agree with a nod. As the Scales would investigate the room and adjacent washroom, Indalell would go about picking the lock on the door. "You are very good at that for not being a thief," Spark would comment hovering over his shoulder. "Thank you," Indalell would respond with a smile.

The door open now, the Scales would prepare to deal with the magical creatures they had been warned about by Spark. As they entered the room powerful illusionary magics would assault their minds, tho only Indalell would fall prey to the spell. Instead of seeing a damaged and ruined sitting room, Indalell would see it from its former glory, and would venture in moving towards someone playing the piano. The others would question what he was seeing, to Indalelles confusion. Upon reaching the piano and speaking to the woman sitting there playing, she would turn and smile, speaking another incantation to assault his mind. Becoming quite confused as the spell battled for control, the Scales would move into action as massive crystalline spiders would appear from their magical hiding places and assault the party. The battle was brief and violent with the spiders launching magical spells and striking with their spike line appendages, laden with a strange poison. Indalell would shake off his haze and join the fight as A'lar's magics battled back, Ayriens empowered arrows tore into the carapace of the creatures, Longwei's fists would smash and Ismarils blade piercing deep returning with a strange shimmering ichor and Adalon's shield would protect the group while his sword flashed down upon the creatures. As the battle turned one spider would bolt away into a hallway, Longwei rushing to spike the door and trap it inside. Taking a moment to breath, they would hear the clicking of thousands of tiny impacts. Making ready for whatver was about to come thru the door, the scales were not prepared for the thousands of baby spiders that poured from beneath the door and thru the cracks. Adalon would be swarmed by the creatures nearly disappearing in their mass, the door bursting from its hinges as the giant spider returned. The many Drakania among the Scales would release their breath weapons, Adalone immune to the force magic from the draconic powers would be freed of his spidery swarm, and the area would become quiet again.

The scales would set about to aligning a magical device in the experimentation room that was preventing proper teleportation thru the tower. The chaotic magical energies would blast out, massive lightning bolts coursing thru Ismaril and Indalell. A second bolt would strike Ismaril, her scapulars glowing diverting much of the blast preventing the magic from likely killing her in their second strike. With the machine aligned, the Scales would next scour the offices of the Professors on this floor, seeking the device necessary to control one of their teleporters. While doing this, Indalell would uncover a strange book, that seemed to contain a ritual very similar to what the Scales had been working on. Unable to grasp the finer details he would go to put it away for later, however A'lar would ask to see it. Growing concerned as he studied the ritual, this seemed to be the very ritual of which Thurazdur had used to attempt to achieve godhood, changing his undead and draconic nature to that of the divine. Stowing this for later, they Scales would use the teleporter to reach the testing room. Spark had offered that beyond this final test of the tower, the heart of the tower would open. Here the greatest items of the tower, as well as its most powerful casting apparatus would be. Working together the puzzle would be solve and a warning uncovered from the schools found concerning the powers of Necromancy and the dangers of going too far into the realm of the dead. Another teleportation circle would light up, the Scales were nearing the last item necessary to complete their ritual to change the very nature of dragons.
