Session 15: Summers Finding Festivities Report

General Summary

The next several days went on uneventfully for the Scales. Indalell worked to find a guard to replace, getting a job at the Tavern the Aelindon guards frequent so as to find his best mark. Posing as a pretty young bar maid he would quickly endear himself to the guardsmen and by the evening before Summersfinding he would have an invitation to the young guards flat, but would for now tease and deny him. The clothes from Elim would be finished, and the Scales would pick up the 4 sets of new clothes. Ayriens was as promised a Cotehardie inspired dress, sultry and sleek, off the shoulders and with a long slit, it was a vibrant amethyst color. Ismarils dress would be a bright blue halter style, its skirt asymmetric and also riding quite high on one side, the midriff was a sheer with sparkling gemstones. A'lars tunic was a rich copper with many sewn in beads and intricate designs. Longweis was a Kimono of silk, white and purple with flying dragons winding up the sleeves. Everyone pleased with Elims work, the Ladies set out to accessories before the party.

As summers finding was underway, Indalell would bid them good ventures as he set out to likely abscond the good guard this evening and infiltrate house Aelindon. The rest took carriages to the festivities. Clan Aureate kept their royal palace a fortress to defend the city, and instead fashioned an opulent hall for hosting such occasions as festivals and parties, the building was lavish, reaching two stories built from white wood and gilded, fine details carved into gutters and overhangs of twisting leaves and acorns. Inside their invitations would be checked and then granted admittance to the hall, the first main room was the Ballroom, many younger nobles were already buys dancing upon it, a find band playing a variety of musics as the night would go on. They pressed on to the dining area, where the queen and other nobles were seated. At the head of the room the Queen was seated in an opulent throne, to her right was a male elf, with a scarred face missing an eye and her left, the half dragon Seraphina who would stand and motion the Scales forward to introduce them. Adalon would step forward first and present the Scales of Fate along with freshly woven tapestry he had commission in the last few days displaying the Queens new port in all its splendor and bustling with many ships of clan Aureate. The Queen most pleased would thank him and invite the group to sit at the table Seraphina had reserved for them. A'lar would linger as the others took their seat and conjuring his illusions, he would introduce himself to the Queen as imaginary waves swelled and crashed about him. From the waves a great ship would emerge moving towards the Queen. As A'lar gave a small speech of turbulent times and the right hand upon the helm, a figure resembling the Male elf beside the queen would be washed away and replaced with the resplendent image of her majesty. As the illusions subsided he would present her a small wooden ship, with an intricate figure of Queen Thalindra. Thalindra would take it and smile "How lovely, I see you have found the skill of our wood workers guild." A'lar would nod pleased and invite her to speak her house motto, in so doing the ship would come to life as sails billowed and flags fluttered as if under way. Joining the others they would be served a fine first course from the kitchen as the night began to get underway.

Indalell would find his tavern far more empty then usual, none of the Aelindon guards present, he would feign illness and escape his duties at the bar to seek out what had changed. Finding his way to the Aelindon home, a set of heavily armored carriages would somewhat obscured along the side of the main home, finding this curious, he would settle in somewhere to watch. About 20 minutes into his surveillance a cadre of guards would emerge and file into two of the three carriages and then depart roughly in the direction of the party, Indalell on foot would attempt to follow and get ahead of them assuming they were making for the party.

As the first course was finished A'lar would go to mingle with the upper crust of the room, Ismaril would take Idrial to the dance floor enjoying the music. Longwei would admire the artwork and take in his surroundings while Ayrien and Adalon would eventually venture to the dance floor as well. A'lar would make a friend with Cynfrith, a human noble that governs the farmlands east of the river and thru his honeyed words secure some time with a priestess of Aranye, Syndra and her companion after the party. Ismaril would dance with Idrial who proved to be light up on his feet and a talented dancer, taking in the atmosphere of the room. The guests dancing was prevocative and the bits of conversation salatious as the influence of Spring elves on this last spring festival would be apparent. Caelion would exchange some sharp banter with the Queen and the Scales before excusing himself to the dance floor to drink in some peace and watch the Dancing, Ismaril would ask Idrial to go get her a glass of wine and make her way over to the dower Lord. Their conversation was pointed with careful but friendly banter, with Ismaril improving his opinion of at least her by a little before she would rejoin Idrial. As Caelion left, A'lar would boldly take his seat beside the queen he seemed bemused at this turn of events. "Do you dance as well as you speak?" A'lar, "If i did anything as well as I speak I would be unstoppable." With that the queen would laugh and take his arm leading him out to the dance floor. A'lar would augment the dance with his illusions, which somewhat covered the fact he was a mediocre dancer at best. As the song was coming to an end, Longwei and Neia had found their way to the ball room and were taking in the room, when Ismaril would notice the far eastern wall was beginning to sparkle and crack.

Indalell would not beat the carriages to the ball but also they would not be waiting at the place of the party. Concerned he began to canvas the area and discovered the three heavily armed and guarded carriages were parked about a block away again discreetly off the main roads and seeming to be waiting in a public park. Picking his way thru the carefully manicured hedges and hiding behind trees he would sit and watch, wondering what it was they were doing here.

Bliss who had been keeping watch in the ballroom and Ismaril would realize first what was wrong with the wall, it was freezing. Before either could raise much alarm, the wall would shatter sending frozen shards of wood and debris into the hall, thru the rubble would step a pack of ogres, two drakes, and a giant commanding them. Thalindra was first to react and speaking in elvish would summon a small spark of fire that would go flying towards these attackers exploding in a massive fireball. She would then begin to move away from the apparent attack. One of the drakes would be first to react and would come crashing into the ball room, its head rearing back as it sent a ball of liquid sailing towards the queen bursting into a blast of dry freezing ice, engulfing Adalon, Ayrien, the Queen, and two other dancers, covering the area in slick ice. Adalon would try to clear the frozen area but would slip falling with a thud. Speeding up time he would shimmer and pear outside the affected area and would down a healing potion he had brought with him. 2 Ogres would steam thru the gap next their clubs finding home in the bodies of the musicians who were closest to their entry point, knocking them prone in a puddles of their own blood. Ayrien would clear the ice and summon her magics to heal the frostbitten wounds caused by the drakes breath, as she did she would not something within her dress would flare with a burst of heat, a magical aura surrounding her in translucent armor. Longwei would try to cross the ballroom to engage the ogres, his Kimono would have a similar burst of heat as he suddenly felt stronger and faster, unable to close the gap he would hurl a shuriken into one of the ogres, felling them. Neia would begin trying to evacuate the gueats feeling ill equipped to do anything at this dance. Bliss would summon her psionic weapons, and Ismaril would surround herself in an Aura of dread before sending a Psionic blast at the Drakes mind, but it shunted her attempt, her dress two would flare with a brief moment of heat, being shrouded in shimmering ethereal armor. The Second Drake would push past the first, having spent its breath to freeze the wall he would bite down on a guest in a spray of blood. Caelion would push thru the ice and take the queens arm getting her away from the frozen region and beginning to move her back into the dining room. The Guards at the door would push thru the throngs of guests trying to flee and engage with one of the drakes, their rapier glancing off the Drakes scales. A'lar would throw an alchemical satchel of Flash Step Dust, allowing himself and several other nearby guests to teleport out of immediate danger. He would then create an illusion of the shards of ice and shattered all to swirl in a violent storm. The two ogres believing the illusion would collapse from their percieved wounds. The Giant would be last to enter its every footfall rumbling the room, its great axe cleaving another guest in two.

The Drake would lunge forward to bite Ismaril but would instead be paralyzed in its fear at her presence. Bliss would move to position herself between the attakers and A'lar and would strike at the Drake attacking Ismaril, but its scales would turn away her blade. Ismaril would focus her psionic energy on the Giant this time trying to assault his psyche but he too would shunt her intrusion to his mind. Two more of the Elven guards would advance their rapiers striking at the giant and glancing off his armor and hardened flesh. Adalon would move towards the others positioning himself to release an explosive sputum of force energy of his draconic heritage, the explosion rocking two drakes, the ogre leader and giant however would only be mildly bothered. He would then teleport further north within the ballroom to be out of danger. The second drake would bite and slash at the guard assaulting it, tearing holes in his armor and flesh. Vaera would charge off form Ayries side and would try to bite the giant and cling to its leg in a grapple with no effect. Longwei would step up to an ogre delivering a flurry of punches and kicks, cracking the creatures jaw as his blows landed with magical force energy along side his raw strength, and with a finishing move hurl a shuriken at the next ogre. One ogre would rush Bliss but stumble and miss its swing with its club. A second would step up to longwei delivering a heavy blow with its club to his shoulder. The cadre of guards would engage the giant their rapiers still having little impact. Idrial having summoned his psionic armor would now move to flank the Ogre attacking Bliss and would fell the beast. The Giant would swing a mighty arc with its axe cleaving the three guards and knocking Vaera unconscious with his heavy blow. With his last blow he would cut one of the guards in two. The Ogre Warleader would appear behind Idrial delivering a heavy club blow to his back lurching him forward. Neia would move to Adalon handing him her sword figuring he could put it to better use in this situation. A'lar would move his swirling illusionary chaos towards the giant, the dim witted ogres falling over the from the illusionary blows, but the Drake and Giant would ignore the parlor tricks. He would then move to follow Caelion who was moving the queen further from the conflict....
