Session 28: Civil Unrest Report

General Summary

The Scales had taken the evening to rest after securing the Ary. By morning the news was across the city and in the early hours many districts of Amarantine were in open revolt. Adalon and Ayrien would head for East Gate, where they found the city guard were hard pressed to keep a secure perimeter around the great Museum of the city. Adalon ascended the great steps, his voice augmented by magics he would address the upset citizenry of the district. "My Amaranthus kin! We have been paralyzed at a cross roads for too long. We can not wait while Dragons Sleep and the world still turns! The council was an anchor of old ways, starting today we are a city, a people moving forward, the City will be ruled by the people! Already the great families set in motion the formation of a great citizens council where your voices may be heard thru your neighbors to whom you elect to it! Ounce again we return to the meritocracy that we have held so dear! Lay down your arms and your torches, harm not the city and return to your homes as we make a better tomorrow together!" As he was giving his speech Ayrien would note several in the crowd that were attempting to shout him down and keep the momentum going for the violence, but it was now upon deaf ears. Adalon had brought peace to the malcontents of East Gate and secured the Museum. Indalell went into the Rats Market and took a more subversive approach. Changing his form and augmenting his voice he would slowly work to take over the roving mob of looters and malcontents. Using this time to identify ring leaders he would point them out and isolate them to guards hidden amongst the crowd working in tandem with him. Soon the instigators of Rats Market were in custody and the mob was dispersed. The riots in the Wings Walk were far more devastating as several large businesses along the promenade were destroyed and a large fire was started in the University. By midday the City Guard had restored order across the city, leaving only a bastion of Loyalist City Guard held up in Drakons Roost in protest to the action.

Longwei used his morning to keep an eye on the Ary itself. Before long he would notice many of the servants and staff of the area were clearly taking notes, recording information, and in general spying with little aptitude on the new defenses and movements of the occupiers of the Ary. Confronting one such gardner, a dwarf, Longwei would calmly explain, "This can go the easy way or the painful way." His calm measured voice and reputation for keeping his word left the dwarf to give him all he wished to know. They were all collecting intel for the Curunis family and were to drop it around 4pm just outside the Ary. Longwei thanked the dwarf and bid him continue as he returned to the Scales HQ. The Scales of Fate met up in the early afternoon where they would plan what was next. A'lar would share his efforts in setting up a printing press nearby and establishing a propaganda operation. Ayriens offered her suspicions that the riot was a cover for a heist at the museum, and Ismaril would deflect A'lars inquiry into the Draconiens as Sildenaer had returned to Clan Starlight early in the morning. It was decided Ismaril would interrogate the prisoners taken by Indalell, Longwei and Indalell would go observe the drop location, and Ayrien and Adalon would assist Ismaril then make their presence known in the Rose Fair, providing security and pitching in where able. A'lar unbeknownst the rest would slip away to pay the Starlight Ambassador a visit thru the Council portal.

The interrogations of the prisoners would be swift and smooth. Ismarils inspiring and frightful presence combined with Adalon's ability to discern truth made for compliant prisoners. Ayrien took notes for authorities, and would report back that these were indeed former members of the Basilisk cell, now part of the Cockatrices cell, and were told the truce had been broken in the city. Indalell and Longwei would find the drop, where a professional spy of sorts would make the pick up and carefully cover her tracks to a near by tavern. Longwei would watch from the outside while Indalell slipped in. About a half hour later a man with military baring would enter, sit with the woman, exchange pleasantries and a gentle caress then leave. Indalell would not see it but was sure the information was handed off. Staying to follow the woman Indalell would hope Longwei noticed the man out of place in this tavern as he left. Longwei would pick up the person seemed out of place and would follow him to the Harts Ward where he entered a private residence. Indalell followed the elf woman as she left to her flat in the Scale Works and took note of it. A'lar arrived in the Capital of Clan Starlight and made his way to the ambassadors estate. Bronok the dwarven butler was surprised to see him and Bliss but let them in. Seating them in a lavish living room with tea and cakes he would fetch Sildenaer. "How long do you think he will have us wait?" A'lar asked. Bliss would snort, "Two hours atleast." A'lar would shake his head, "We are best friends, it wont take that long." An hour and a half would pass before Sildenaer would arrive, this pleased A'lar. "Ambassador, I was curious when you plan to share the ritual with your allies?" A'lar cutting to the point. The Ambassador would frown a bit, "That will depend on the nature of such an Alliance, at this time, your government is in dissaray and I do not know what will come from it, surely I can not hand this over until the terms are settled." A'lar would frown at this, "Ambassador your agents took this information from a joint operation and are keeping it from us, it is a very poor start to a formal friendship." Sildenaer would nod some, "Yes as is passing it to your sister behind everyone's back to solve it before the rest of is." A'lar would frown deeper, "That is not what I was doing, in anycase, we may need Draconiens as the Council Guard still has forces at large." Sildaenaer would nod, "Well I can send the ones we have made to help you in the mean time, but I will not be sharing the ritual until whatever is to come next is negotiated and finalized." A'lar would show some signs of frustration at this, "And what would does your Starspeaker think of all this?" The ambassador would shrug, "Nothing, I do not intend to give him the ritual either, I am keenly interested in this future together and this will give me leverage on both sides of the debate to see it done." A'lar would shake his head, "looks like we are not the only ones planning a coup...good day Ambassador." A'lar would spend a few hours in the city before returning home.

As the Scales of Fate came back to their HQ in the evening, a heated exchange between Ismaril and A'lar would soon follow. The trustworthiness of Clan Starlight was called into question, and accusations of the potential coup from the Ambassador were leveled. To this Ismaril had no information, but finding the words of A'lar a bit hostile, she departed taking the entirety of her guard with her back to Clan Starlight, on arrival she had the teleport circle closed to ensure no trouble followed her. The other Scales did not seem as upset as A'lar about the taking of the ritual, Indalell in fact would comment, "Its silly to trust anyone." As they all broke for the evening to their own business, Indalell would wait till after midnight and break into the elf spies flat. There seated in her room he would finally wake her with a nudge. She would draw a dagger quickly pointing it towards him with a frown, pulling her sheets up over her naked form, "Who are you?" Indalell would smile, "They Call me Indigo, I am in a similar line of work as you, but am curious are you hired or a loyalist of the cause?" The Elf frowning at her situation would lower the dagger, "Hired," she would offer flatly. Indalell would smile and clap, "Wonderful, then I want you to just not show up for work for the next few days." She would tilt her head, "You want to send me on a vacation? Will need some spending money for that." Indalell would tilt his head, "How much?" "10 gold per day," she would say without hesitation. Indalell would smile, "Well enough and you will be comped at my favorite bath house so you can relax while you spend my coin, just don't be seen." With that he would stand and exit the window he had come thru.

The next morning finding the Starlight Embassy empty, Indalell would go to the teleport circle, and would then find access to Clan Starlight was deactivated. With a frown he would teleport to Clan Aureate and find they had a diplomatic circle to reach the Starlight City. Arriving at the ambassadors estate, Bronok would shake his head at all these visitors and bring him in. Ismaril would look surprised seeing Indalell then shook her head, "If it was going to be anyone to teleport thru a deactivated circle it would be you." Indalell would smile, "We need you back for an operation, you are the most competent, don't want to risk it going south." Ismaril would laugh softly at the compliment, then tilt her head, "Sure I can be trusted?" Indalell would shrug, "I don't trust anyone, but we are laying a trap for Lady Curunis since I have broken her information gathering, the Scales want to send false information we are moving Lord Curunis to Clan Starlight for security, then take her when she tries to rescue him." Ismaril would nod to the plan, "Alright, well lets get back then!"
