2024/12/20: Dungeon Speedrun 3 Report
General Summary
Lillith, Ba'alzamon, Eldrin, Malakai, Knight
Three more rooms and a boss room on floor 11. The party decided that since skipping floors didn't lock off activities on those floors, they should skip ahead to floor 13 and get their objective, then come back for additional loot as desired.
There are about 2 days remaining before the orcs are allowed into the dungeon.
Floor 11 boss was a giant dracolich hydra. Lillith snuck past. She had some trouble, though. Eldrin tried to help via his special means of scrying, but he just kept seeing a shadowy dimensional fissure of souls and torment. It seems he's seeing into the magic behind the dungeon.
Zahedra knows about the soul-bound monsters the same way she knows anything: "She can see them. Can't you?"
With a good distraction, Lillith did get by the dracolich hydra. She went on to the next floor, where she made her way past a bunch of fire-themed enemies.
Meanwhile, Eldrin discovered that there are a bunch of other networks of dungeon-trapped souls. Perhaps there are other dungeons like this one? The soul realm seems to extend into infinity, with grids of souls placed intermittently.
Floor 13. Vaguely Gothic architecture, grey and white coloring. Some cobwebs. Lillith summoned the party to her via Ba'alzamon's summon assault squad scroll.
Epic-looking red dragon sneaking along down a corridor in the distance. Easily 350 feet long. Party decided to avoid.
Room covered in thick vines. Feminine humming. Vines cordoned off chest spot. 500x500 room.
Banshee version of Merida in a death metal band. Screaming singing that literally breathes out fire. Blasted whole party with sonic fire attack, except for Knight, who reacted instantly and shade-dashed through the fire, bringing Eldrin and Taivvel with him. Knight dove into the bewildering maze of vines, using his radial navigation and platforming skills to get to the banshee in seconds. He slashed her. She survived. Then Ba'alzamon appeared out of the maze of flames, messed with Knight's timestream, and positive energy drained the banshee. Then time stood still, and Knight tore the banshee apart.
Banshee died dramatically with the Dream Master's Nail through her chest. She sort of stuck to it as Knight tried to pull it out, with her clawing ineffectually at it. Subsequent investigation by Knight and Eldrin suggested that her soul was latched onto Knight and the sword, potentially giving a way to free her by bringing her out of the dungeon. They left her alone.
Ba'alzamon was very offended by the runes in the room, which had very bad handwriting.
Party dodged a slow-moving tornado.
Next encounter was an elemental made up of obsidian burning skulls. Attacked with literal tongues of flame, which then bombarded the party with firey magic missiles. It set the whole room on fire. Fortunately, that was countered by Lillith's fireproofing bardic song.
That fight was annoying, since it was pretty much immune to physical damage, but we had enough cold damage on hand to slowly kill it. Eldrin was very irritated by it surviving his once-per-day Death Strike; when the strike hit, one of the skulls popped off and nothing else happened.
Next fight was against a waterspout elemental of some sort. Air elemental in a giant pool of water. Fight was relatively tough. Eventually won. Got bounced off the walls a lot.
