2024/11/29: Dungeon Speedrun Report

General Summary

Lillith, Ba'alzamon, Eldrin, Malakai, Knight

Party just finished 11th level of the dungeon. Lights are purpleyer than normal.

Zehedra rejoined the party. (She's the imp Malakai summoned.) She was very confused. There had been a lot of weird lights and swirly lights and fire, and then she got yoinked.

Kelsey spontaneously disappeared.

Hallway 50 feet tall, wide enough for a four-lane highway. Purple flashing lights. Extremely repetitive black and purple brickwork(?).

Vaenu's Deep Delve, continent of Thaern(?)

Zehedra. Sort of gobliny creature with gnarled skin. Shamany. Vaguely feminine. She manifested after Ba'alzamon did a ritual outside the dungeon after Lillith took down the teleport wards. Might be a spirit of the dungeon? She's real and physical now, though.

Currently on floor 10. Trying to get down to floor 13. Each floor pretty consistently has four major encounters, some minor encounters, and a boss. The major and boss encounters are the only reliable source of loot.

Party took the turn to the right. Traveled down a long hallway and around another corner. After more hallway, found a treasure room door. Sound of distant thunder. No other side; door is a portal of some kind, or the other side doesn't exist yet.

Large, vaguely cubic room. Frozen/solidified tornado on the other side, like a stasised air elemental. Once the party all got inside, the door slammed shut and the elemental stepped forward to fight them.

Fight went quickly. Ended with party picking obsidian needles out of themselves.

Malakai went to investigate the runes Zehedra had spent the fight looking at.

Party got a set of magic clothes and thousands of obsidian needles. (They put the needles in boxes.)

Party headed back and continued. Encountered huge humanoid figures moseying down the giant corridor. Decided to avoid. Ducked back into the side passage to wait for them to pass. As they passed, they appeared to be talking in some lightning/air elemental language.

Party continued. Half dozen goth teenager vampires swept out to attack. Gothic Renaissance armament.

Knight stopped them cold, scaring one of them badly enough that he fell over. Then Ba'alzamon resurrected that one using the Prayer Beads of Djivati. He lit on fire, then screamed and lay still. This was very strange: He should have pretty much evaporated.

The vampires somehow managed to skitter out of Eldrin's "move object" effect. They didn't get away from Malakai whacking one with Torbronze, and that one also left a corpse. Malakai felt like he'd rent some magical something in the process.

Lillith tried to hit them with an energy blast, but they fully avoided that too. Very squirrely.

The vampires Ba'alzamon and Malaki killed left corpses, the rest poofed. Closer examination showed the bodies were sort of half-elveny. The party took the bodies with them in hopes of resurrecting them or giving proper funeral rights.

The party found another door. This one had the sound of crackling, like a fire elemental. The room on the other side was mostly cubic. There was a throne at the other side of the room. There was a very tall, broad-shouldered noble gentleman with a large sword standing in the middle of the room, where the chest should be.

Turned out to be some sort of vampire lord. Stuck Knight in a prismatic sphere and went for the spellcasters. Eldrin smacked him with the ice howitzer. He mostly shrugged off everything the party threw at him until Ba'alzamon cast Prismatic Zap. It dispelled the prismatic sphere and collapsed it on its caster. The fight ended with the vampire lord turned to stone.

Found a large, fancy black crown with a sort of bat theme. Crown of the Vampire Prince.

Knight reduced the statue of Valstad, the Vampire Prince by one size and Ba'alzamon gleefully added him to the loot pile. Valstad is a bladesinger.

Went to the boss room. Buffed up before going in. Big gridlike rectangular room with columns. Roof is slightly glowing purple and lighting the room.

Boss is tremendously large lightning-wreathed bird. "The lovechild of a roc, a phoenix, and a thunderbird."

The party managed to kill the bird after a great deal of lightning-flavored pain. Lillith's bardic lightning shields were invaluable.
