S15 - Conversations by Campfire II Report
General Summary
Kyo falls asleep and Jiko is woken up. The party then quiz him on what he knows about Kyo and why he's under his protection. Jiko replies that he is bound under a contract with Lady Kisei and cannot speak on the matter, and Jugen is hurt that the long-standing wall residents were not entrusted with the task.
Jiko is then asked about his background. Apart from being a famous ramen chef in the capital, he fights with the style of the Suki-komo Uji. His mother had taught him this, but she had mysteriously disappeared.
Mizuki then asked Akira about his neighbors. Akira answers that he had lived with villagers but Jiko thinks he is lying. Akira concedes that he wasn't allowed out much so he didn't really know other people. Jugen then asks Akira how he was able to get away. Akira answers that he was surprised his grandfather let him go and had even given him his mother’s sword. He adds that he ran away to travel the world and took out a list of places he'd like to visit. Jugen muses that he’d go with Akira during his furlough. Notably, the Shadowlands is on Akira's list. When asked why, Akira mentions that he had heard a voice telling him to go seek the 'Purity' and he thinks it might be in there. The party grows concerned and warns Akira against following unknown voices.
Akira is then asked his grandfather's first name. A spark of recognition crosses Mizuki's face, prompting the party to badger her. Mizuki begrudgingly replies that her grandfather had a sibling with that name, who then had a daughter that married Kokuen no Akihiro. Yamami starts shaking Akira for his mother's first name, with the party closely scrutinizing Mizuki. Mizuki eventually grits out that she had an aunt with that name. The party goes into an uproar over the revelation, with Akira lighting up about meeting a relative, but with Mizuki none too happy about the fact. Akira's expression falls and Jiko asks him what was wrong. Akira cheerlessly replies that this was not how he had imagined finding a relative would go. Mizuki says sorry for disappointing and bitterly adds that it's nothing new for her. Akira asks Mizuki to clarify, and she simply explains that her crime caused a rift between her and her family, and would not elaborate further. Akira doesn’t push the matter and Mizuki smiles sadly in gratitude. Dawn then breaks over the camp and the rest of the party wake for the new day.
