S23.1/JT - Baba Lysaga Report

General Summary

While resting, Mizuki notices Yukio leave and follows him out of the tent and into Saorise’s. Mizuki tries to eavesdrop on the two, but is caught and plays it off as nothing. Saorise tasks them to assassinate Strahd’s commander in Berez. Killing her out would deal a massive blow to his forces as she was the mage that controlled his undead army. They accept and encounter Yamami outside trying to listen in. They invite her along to the mission and go through the teleportation circle outside the war camp. They arrive in a mansion in Argynvostholt and encounter Ser Aurin, along with his wife, Orianna, and his best friend, Aluviel. He and Orianna bid them farewell as they will try to gather more people for the battle against Strahd, while Aluviel will assist them in assassinating Strahd’s mage.

The four make their way into the swamps of Berez and quietly approached the floating mage, who was conducting some sort of ritual. Mizuki grants flight to Yukio, who then flies off to attack. Unfortunately, a hidden elf then attacks Mizuki from behind. Mizuki tries to fend him off but is critically wounded. Yamami then transferred some of her life force into her and things looked dire for the both of them. Once Yukio finished off the mage, he and Aluviel take out the aggressive elf. Strahd then speaks to Mizuki, who was impressed that they had taken out two of his best commanders, but was disappointed that Saorise weren’t the ones who took the bait.

  They burn the corpses and make their way back to Argynvostholt. Mizuki rebukes Yamami for transferring her life essence into her, but Yukio responds that that was what comrades do. They then decide to rest in the mansion. Mizuki and Yukio talked while Yamami feigned sleep. Yukio apologizes that he wasn’t good enough to protect Mizuki, but she counters that maybe she was a bad onmyoji for not foreseeing the danger. Yukio replies that Mizuki is a capable onmyoji, and Mizuki turns it back to him by saying that is how she sees him as a fighter. Yukio smiles and says that he’s glad to have met the party and hopes that they can continue fighting together after all this. He then asks what Mizuki thinks of Yamami. Mizuki says that she is still mad at her for harming Akira since she was also related to the boy. Yukio then notices Yamami was awake and then asks what she thought of Mizuki. Yamami responds that she can’t blame Mizuki for being angry and she would’ve reacted the same way if someone harmed her family. She’ll take whatever the party throws at her. Yukio then asks them what they will do should they find that Akira was indeed Strahd and they respond that they will do whatever it takes to get Akira back.
