A New World

The world was on fire.   Storms, plagues, and famines battered the barren globe of Aerlion. Old gods settled differences by destroying each other's lands and as the chaotic forces of magic went untamed Life suffered greatly. Well, untamed until we showed up.   Some called us the forces of Yin and Yang, others the gods of day and night, but mother, she tended to yell, “Darkness! Light!” Seeing the draught and despair that our world suffered we enacted change. Reforming ruthless magics into a new power. It’s Essence infecting every living thing on the planet, including the world itself. Our gift to mankind.   Over time people learned to control the essence. Shaping it into elements to shield them from danger and bring peace to the land, however, their hunger for its power soon turned them against each other. As wars happened like clockwork, Chaos brewed through each era, culminating in a great event called “The Chaotic Desolation”. An act of a boy who lost his way.   Ten years have passed since a group of five heroes, each holding immense control over an element, sacrificed their powers to defeat him. The people of this world are more prosperous than ever. Technology has advanced tenfold. Creativity and union formed a new way of settling differences, a global sport named The Trials. And the power over my gift; Essence, has now molded far beyond the elements. We are finally at peace...   ...at least I believed so.
