Session 84: The Divine Deception
General Summary
The storm raged, winds blowing making ranged fire difficult, if not impossible at longer ranges. The Oleander forces advanced nevertheless. Soldiers made the front ranks with Servius Oleander, the All-Father of the Oleander religion, following behind. Next to them, a gargantuan ivory worm burrowed forward, advancing with the soldiers toward the Moonwell at the Silver Lodge. Illevaere had placed a druid's grove around the entry path to the Moonwell to protect it and the party was protected by spells to boost their health and blessings to guide their arms in battle. The party moved to engage as the Oleander army approached. Wistari Enydark used tree stride to get closer to the advancing groups and used nature's wrath to entangle and restrain a portion of the advancing enemy. Illevaere's call lightning spelll was enhanced by the naturally occurring weather and they began to call strikes down on the All-Father. The All-Father dispelled one of the call lightning spells, but Illevaere called forth another. The calvary were taken out quickly, mostly at a distance as they advanced. Bolvaic, Levi, Tertius, and Aisling moved forward to begin to engage in melee. Illevaere and Wistari remained at their distance, using spells on the Oleander forces, while Ilbryen and Aralmeni positioned themselves to heal, as well as to get some attacks in. Tigs was excited to charge into battle next to Levi, though his inexperience in combat caused him to burn through his rage and anger too quickly. Bolvaic, Aisling, and Tertius focused their attacks primarily on the ivory worm, while Levi and Tigs focused their attacks primarily on the soldiers. The ivory worm's three sections attacked independently, and Aisling found herself struck by the poison stinger of the tail section, as the head of the worm moved down and burst up beneath Bolvaic, swallowing him whole. The innards of the worm had a grinder-like digestive system which damaged Bolvaic as well as the stomach acid. The tail section fired off a bone spike that nearly pierced Aisling and pin her in place. Alarlmeni dropped her healing concentration to focus on getting Bolvaic out of the worm's gullet. The party damaged the midsection of the worm enough for it to forcefully vomit Bolvaic from it, leaving him prone and confused about his manner of exit. Illevaere continued to call down lightning as well as make other attacks, and Ilbryen used guiding bolts to strike at the worm. As the All-Father advanced within range of Wistari, he realized that he was a weak enough foe and pointed at him, saying one word: die. Wistari immediately died, breaking the hold of the soldiers. However, Illevaere saw through the radiant damage illusion and realized it was obvious necromatic magic. They realized that the All-Father was a powerful wizard who extended his life magically, they had discovered communications remarking that the All-Father was carefully placing his phylactery on Rivariin, and the use of the power word kill spell meant one thing: the All-Father was a lich.
