Session 33: Of Gods and Plans Report

General Summary

A God in the Basement

The party awoke, having spent their night gambling and having terrible Ooze dreams, they gathered in the ramshackle great hall of Castle Sunder.   They started trying to decide what to do, and eventually settled on looking at the crypt in the basement, that which was dedicated to the Lady.   They asked for Thrack to go and pick up father Belderone, which he took rather literally and did, carrying him back and bringing him in.   They looked around the shrine and found nothing amiss save some protective magic.   Tarvy therefore dispelled the magic and from the statue came 2 ghostly figures, one tall and elegantly dressed, the other slightly shorter and angrier, dressed in hides.   These turned out to be ghostly resonances of the Lady, with incomplete memories, placed to dispense knowledge of those they deemed worthy.   They eventually explained a great evil was returning and it was up to those present to begin the resistance against it. They opened the sarcophagus and revealed a pristine suit of beautiful mithril plate and an exceptional longsword. As well as this was a banner.   The banner, the ghosts explained was a representation of the Silver Dragonknight, Daestina whose equipment this was. The banner represents something lost long ago, but which still has resonances today and will draw supporters to it.   Alone, however, it will not be enough. There are 19 other former champions whose relics are still to be found, some missing some dead, but all with the potential to bring significant power to bear.

A Plan of Action

Following this the group discussed their next move, Tarvy was pro going to Slowpass while Hal and Gortan were considering a direct attack on Carderby. It was even suggested just giving Hugo up and having done with it.   After considerable debate, and further time spent in the castle they came to the conclusion that the best place to start gathering allies was Slowpass, a few days to the south.

A Spanner in the Works

As the party were about to head out, a messenger arrived with a letter for the Fulcrum. It stated that Count Gauvain would be waiting for them at a farm no more than 1 day's ride to the north on 8 Fathen, and that it would be in their best interests to be present .   The group immediately identified that this was a trap, but decided, for the safety of everyone living near them, that it might be best if they went along and saw what he wanted to say, taking the Rangers with them as backup.   They therefore made their preparations and were ready to set out the following dawn.
