Session 29: Infiltration of Castle Sunder Report

General Summary

Infiltrating the Castle

The party decided to try to sneak into the castle, after seeing guards on the tower nearest them.   They approached cautiously, and found a heavy door, which they, despite some attempts, were unable to get through, they therefore opted to climb in through a very damaged and eerie tower.   Climbing up they found it unnaturally cold, and, as they saw a door which would lead out, they were attacked by a ghost which immediately attacked them.   They were able to defeat the monster, however, not before Gortan and Thrack were badly effected by its horrifying visage, losing 10 and 40 years of their lives respectively. Thrack has nearly tripled in age.   They then attempted to distract the guards in the hall and killed their large hounds.   The noise, however, attracted the attention of those in the next room, and soon the whole keep was descending on them.   Corvan emerged and, after a brief and unproductive fight, a truce was called and negotiations could begin.

Negotiating with Corvan

The party and Corvan's troop gathered in the great hall of this keep. As did their two prisoners, Polli and a young boy revealed to be Hugo Carderby, fair of face and hair.   Discussion followed and it transpired that Corvan had been paid by Gauvain, the new Count, to kill the former Count. Corvan had done so, however, had suspected Gauvain of treachery and so had kept Hugo, the count's youngest son, alive as an insurance policy.   That insurance policy was now, to some extent coming good as a bounty had been put on Corvan's head and he relished the opportunity to split the treacherous humans' skulls.   That said, he grew tired of the boy, curious as he was, and he thought these adventurers potentially useful, agreeing to give them both of his prisoners and leave, provided they find a way to deal with the perfidious Gauvain.   He also gave them a horn by which they could contact his clan should they be nearby.

Aftermath of Negotiation

Corvan had no intention of staying in the keep for long and immediately instructs his tabaxi to prepare for their departure.   They did not have much, and would not be in the castle for long. Before the left, Tarvy was able to discuss Corvan's patron, Aghrorri, an entity which appeared to show particular interest in Corvan himself. He showed him an image of him in the makeshift shrine beneath the castle.   As the morning came, Hugo called the group into the great hall and, after some consideration, instructed Tarvy to kneel, and, as his first act as count, dubbing him a knight of Carderby. While there was steely determination in this boy, he was also clearly very nervous   He also appointed Hal as his court wizard and is considering Darshann for religious guidance. Darshann, however, is very much not trusted by the rest of the party, especially Tarvy.   By the middle of the day the tabaxi took their leave, almost without notice and with no emotional farewells.   The party used the opportunity to rest up and recover from their injuries, staying in the castle and spending a bit of time getting to know their two new friends.
