Session 11: The Coming of the Lycanthrope Report

General Summary

Finding the Shag Pile

  • The party decided to follow the trail of the Shag Pile towards the sound of bestial roars.
  • They approached the tent and found their way inside, the Heartbreak Quintet providing cover outside the large tent.
  • Going inside this seemed to be more lavish than the rest of the camp, ornate decorations around the insides.
  • In the centre stood Merdon his sword embedded in the neck of a huge white Minotaur as it drops to the floor with a mighty crash, dead, it’s ornate axe dropping to the ground next to it.
  • Nadaar was also unconscious on the floor with Volaar kneeling over him.
  • Miadi tried first to heal the Minotaur and then, at the last possible second stabilised Nadaar as the party questioned the Shag pile, who Vasool had sent here to kill this minotaur.
  • It was at that moment that a horn sounded throughout the camp.

Escape from the Lycanthropes

  • Miadi and Rukk ventured outside to see what was going on, and almost immediately saw two vulpine humanoids approaching, who, upon seeing them emerge from the yurt became hostile.
  • They started to fight, and heard the Quintet do the same. Those in the tent were not aware though.
  • As combat started, those inside heard and decided to escape out of the back, the Shag pile rushing out and also being engaged by a group of these vulpine creatures, their weapons seemingly ineffectual.
  • It was touch and go for a while but the party managed to fight their way out of the camp, the numbers of these creatures seeming almost limitless, fox like, rat like and wolf like creatures all pursuing the company as they fled the camp.
  • Only a smattering of creatures seemed to pursue, and the party decided to loop back and see whether they could find Vasool.
  • They sent the Pile and the Quintet ahead, all of them seemingly to have survived some of them hurt.

Return to Thornguard

  • They looped back, avoiding their pursuers and asking Carnast to show them where to go.
  • They looped back and it seemed as though Vasool was in the camp.
  • Rukk volunteered to turn into a rat and see what was going on.
  • He approached and found there was some kind of gathering of these creatures. He wasn’t able to get a clear estimate on the numbers, especially from his low angle, but he could see a raised stage in the centre, surrounded by these chanting lycanthropes.
  • On the platform was a big creature, muscled and barely clad, humanoid but barely, one huge tusk emerging from his face as he led the chanting before bringing it to a close. He then started talking angrily to the assembled gathering, in a language that Rukk did not know.
  • As he watched he saw the creature gesture to the far side of the stage as up stepped Vasool, as he strode into the centre to address the crowd he looked across and straight into Rukk’s eyes.
  • He addressed the crowd in common stating that it was the White Wolves who killed their leader and they should follow these interlopers and destroy them root and stem.
  • At the end of the speech he looked back to Rukk and gave him a malicious wink as Rukk hastily retreated.
  • Hearing this the party made haste to return to camp, avoiding any pursuers and starting a forest fire en route.
  • They caught up with the Pile and the Quintet to find that Nadaar and Blek (Flight) were missing, Nadaar had apparently tried to distract the pursuing creatures while Blek hadn’t been seen for the last day or so.
  • The group returned to camp, discovering that Ferloch had recently set off and they had limited resources and time to defend themselves.
