Session 31: The Battle for Castle Sunder Report
General Summary
Hasty Negotiations
The party spent much of the week before the attack finding allies in the surrounding woods and swamp. They met with the curvaceous goblin leader, Nel, who agreed to assist if they were able to stop the ogres eating their sap. Rukk and Gortan were able to negotiate this and, at least temporarily, bring about peace between the two.
While this had been going, Father Belderone was able to complete the reconsecration of the Temple to the Lady, seemingly removing the undead presence from the castle.
The party also made their way into the swamp to hunt down the Hags. They eventually found them and the dominant hag, Agnes Tongue-Gorger, agreed that they would leave, in exchange for a trade, an agreement. Rukkus agreed to make this pact with them. The agreement was:
• The hags would leave this swamp for good, and instead go to where Rukk came from in Midamis.
• They would, as far as they were able, aid with the fight against Berenger.
• They would not actively or through inaction allow anyone to be hurt as a result of their arrival in Rukk's swamp.
This was sealed in blood and the hags immediately departed.
The remainder of the week was spent training and preparing the keep for attack.
New Recruits
As the week went on, various recruits began appearing at the stronghold:
- Rejects
- Forest Rangers
- Slowpass Boys
- Carderby Loyalists
- Silver Kobold Legion
The Battle for Castle Sunder
On the 10th day it turned out that Willoughby's information had been correct, and the Army of Sir Berenger appeared , emerging from the new border of the forest nearby . As they emerged, the air before the party rippled and bent, before, stepping through came Berenger himself, his knights, priest and mage.
As battle was joined outside the castle walls, the party did battle with Berenger, making fairly light work of him , largely thanks to the use of Heat Metal from Gortan.
In short order, Berenger fell, and his troops outside the castle began to break and scatter, with only fairly minor casualties on the allied side, in part thanks to the help of the Goblins and Trolls who arrived before the battle truly concluded.
The party now had to decide what to do next.
