Session 35: To the Underrock! Report

General Summary

Departing Sunder

The party set off from Castle Sunder, Hugo seeming glum but simultaneously excited and curious about what would come next.   A few days passed uneventfully until, on the fourth day from Sunder, the group bumped into your allies coming up from Bassonne, looking distinctly the worse for wear, having been on the road for some time.   They were, however, all still alive, even Nanny Goosey who seemed barely conscious, tended to by Nephi in the back of one of their carts.   As well as those you already knew, there was a new figure, a simple clad figure, dark skinned with eyes unseeing, wrinkled skin and clearly with elf blood running through his veins, undoubted very old. He introduced himself as Horbane, Horbane Wranvaris, a Diviner with his own reasons for joining the party. These will likely be explored when you meet him back at base.   The two groups parted promising a proper reunion back at castle Sunder.   The party continued making their way South and East and, during an attack by a tar-infected Bulette, were covered in tar from its stomach.

Bittergorge Revisited

Not long after this, they reached Bittergorge, the typical frontier town/city (it skirts the murky border between the two), and Blaise, Rukk and Gortan sought out a temple to cleanse themselves of the tar's influence. They found one, manned by a very drunk, very fat bugbear, who gladly assisted them, inviting them into the back room and conducting the Host's ritual on them, a naked wine bath. Afterwards everyone felt much better, if somewhat sticky.   Tarvy meanwhile began looking into transportation onward, first questioning the staff at the teleportation circle, who said it would cut a couple of days off their journey by taking them to Snaketrails. This didn't feel too satisfying so he went in search of an airship, finding an inn with a deflated airship next to it.   Entering he was greeted by hostile stares of the Orcs, Bugbears and Goblins in residence. He approached the bar, manned by a human, and made it known he was looking for transportation out to the East.   He was approached by Oswald, a one legged Orc and captain of the Sparrow Squall, a ramshackle airship which was parked outside. He agreed to take them there and back for 350gp as long as they would be on guard duty for the period. When agreed, his crew got to work, preparing to depart in the morning. This way it would only take 4 or 5 days to get to the sanctuary.

Arrival at the Underrock

The party set off, rising into the sky on the Sparrow Squall, and keeping watch throughout the period.   Fortunately the ship was not attacked on the way to the sanctuary, the only signs they saw of trouble were harpies wheeling below, one wearing the banner of a known Ozrag Warband, deep within Godrun territory. That said they did not disturb the group so the airship continued, arriving in the late afternoon of the fourth day.   The party disembarked, while Oswald indicated he would find a place to set down nearby but his crew would keep his eyes open for their return.   The entrance to the sanctuary was down a narrow ravine, winding this way and that before emerging into a wide open area, a large circular hole in the ceiling open to the sky above. Two immense statues dominate the sides of the room, each representing one aspect of the Father. In the centre, a pool in which a bull's head scale was erected, designed to measure justice in certain difficult cases.   As they entered, the party were abruptly halted by two figures clad in heavy armour with heavy bull's heads. One of these transpired to be Morjhan, a gold Dragonborn who seemed to not be Tarvy's biggest fan.   After some discussion, Lusar, Tarvy's former friend, was summoned. Since his departure she had become Justicar, the leader of this sanctuary.   She had words with Tarvy, angry words, sad words, words of frustration. The outcome of this was that Tarvy was not welcome, but Hugo was allowed to stay. Tarvy must leave. That moment. Forever.   She allowed him to say a goodbye to Hugo, before Morjhan and the other paladin, a tall, rugged bugbear, escorted him out.   He told the others he would meet them back at the ship.   The rest of the party are welcome in the sanctuary, and several of the sanctuary residents seem curious to speak with them.
