Shamblebush

General Summary

Smarting from the bullywug attack, the expedition buried its dead and rested to recover. Captain Markesh, increasingly despondent and less willing to make decisions, turned to the party to decide how to proceed. They opted to continue along the river rather than risking an uncertain overland portage/trek. After considering the dangers and disadvantages of fighting bullywugs on the river, the expedition decided to lash together the remaining canoes to form a more stable raft.   Sailing southwest, the expedition camped nearby a known bullywug outpost. The party took charge of planning defensive positioning and setting ambushes for the froggy bastards. Instead, they were waylaid by a pair of hulking shambling mounds! After a brutal and costly battle—two of the three remaining Moonday Brothers were killed, and the third fled—the expedition laborers demanded higher wages. They threatened to return to Larissa unless they received compensation. Prof. Tybalt Muse and Tiberius intimidated and manipulated them into continuing with threats and quasi-truthful promises (a signed document!). Captain Markesh has well and truly abdicated his role as expedition leader.   Still wary of bullywugs, Theryn Soupslinger (the camp cook) stealthily investigated the nearby outpost. He found them all dead, gnawed upon by (probably) human zombies. The surrounding swamp is darker and more foreboding; the dread of impending death is palpable, especially with the laborers.
