Session 4: Return to Civilization

General Summary

There it was, floating ten, maybe twenty meters above them, the "singing Goblin": Except, it was no goblin. It was as if someone opened up a gigantic crow and showed some extremely ugly hag inside. Her nose almost like a beak, and her eyes as if belonging to a vulture. One would be forgived for thinking it was a gigantic bird flapping there against the grey sky. A bird almost as ugly as a medusa, grabbing the poor deer with her gigantic talons, dragging it away, towards her nest.   There are tales of men being lured out by harpy's singing, but having seen what she did to the village the night before, they knew they'd best be hiding in the bushes a little more. Except for Fortvilelse, who's curious nature got the best of him. There he stood, in the center of the meadow, waving at the ugly flying creature.   "Hello! My name is Fortvilelse! Who are you?"   Roll initiative!

Related Reports

The party leaves the Moon Rock behind. The inhabitants of the temple, now restaurant titled "We Serve Man", promised to keep it safe. On the way back to town, the group comes across two more bullywugs having captured a poor man, bringing him to the restaurant, as tonights dinner. Fortvilelse, having a literal silver tongue, manages to convince the creatures to let the guy go.   The man, a dairy farmer named Hjalmar Haps, is grateful, and shows everyone the way back to Kartong, where he lives. The mood isn't great, though. Not only does everyone in the group (except Malcer) seems to be have been branded lawless for destroying Egg, but there's also a so-called "singing goblin" terrorizing the village at night. Having saved both Hjalmar, and his neighbor Melker, nobody seems interested in turning in the party, and they decide to stick around for a night to help fight the "singing goblin".   At night, almost everyone gets entranced by beautiful singing, and a cow is killed. Next morning, the group searches the crime scene, and follows a track of feathers and blood through the hills, until they run into a flying creature carrying away a deer. Fortvilelse, being extremely curious and naive, decides to give away their position, and the flying creature, not a goblin, but a harpy, starts singing again. Smog gets charmed and walks off a cliff, but the party's arrows flies true and it doesn't take much effort to fell the creature.   They manage to find it's nest on top of a tree, but while attempting (and failing) to climb it, they notice a shadow high in the sky, soaring the area, searching for something. It's an extremely mad Hanefar, and the powerful priest somehow seems to know the general whereabouts of the party, his newly found enemies. He eventually flies away, and the group returns to Kartong to claim their reward, a handful of gold.   The farmers share the little information they got: Gods are the law of the land, and while Hanefar's not a true god, the law recognizes him as one. So if the party wants to remove their brand of being lawless, they need to seek the forgiveness of one of Dumroth's real gods. The old library in Pottit, north of Kartong, has a book cataloguing the whereabouts of every god in Dumroth, and just by happenstance, Hanefar seems to have very specific reasons not to enter the city of Pottit. As if he's afraid of someone, or something, living there.   Hanefar afraid of something? And how will the group survive a trek almost 60km north while being hunted from the sky?

Notes

Unanswered questions and things worth noting:

  • Hanefar seems to be able to spy on the heroes. How?
  • Will the Moon Rock be safe in the Bendelorm Temple?
  • How are the heroes supposed to get in contact with a god?
