Perplexed by the Powerstation

General Summary

On the trail of a recent Cloud Giant attack on the infrastructure of the metropolis of New Rousanage (as learnt about in The Library of West Aller), the party returned to the city to investigate. After asking around, in particular Viktii Reva leader of the Advanced Guard. He was incredibly concerned about the potentially serious disruptions caused by the power outage, and informed the party that unsuccessful attempts had been made to contact the power station. He was limited in how he could help as there was no immediate need for concern as the power was running and the power station's jurisdiction was tied up in bad bureaucracy, but he gladly sent the party to investigate.
Upon arriving at the power station they found the building to be more of a bunker, a huge concrete dome with a towering copper chimney rising up from the dome. There were several metal doors into the dome, but all seemed welded shut from the inside. With brute strength and a bit of luck, they tore open one of the doors and entered the station.
Inside they found themselves in a huge single room, spanning the size of the bunker, with the base of the copper chimney in the centre blocking the view to the other side of the building. The station had been segmented into rooms with copper caging, and holding a hand close to the cage one could feel a gentle tingle of electricity. Amongst the shadows, humanoid figures shuffled, masking their form in the darkness.
Not all the humanoids in the shadows were sinister, as the party found a halfling, Ulysses McCree, hiding under a desk. He was terrified out of his mind, but was able to recount what had happened. There had been a clanging sound from the copper chimney, followed by the sounds of combat and then the power went out. Workers rushed into the chimney to investigate, Ulysess being the last to the door, but before he could enter there was a sudden power surge. When Ulysses awoke the power was back on, but non of his colleges were quite humanoid anymore. They were something more monstrous.
The party decided they needed to get into the chimney to properly investigate, but there was no way they were getting in while the power was running. With some coersion, and against his better judgement, Ulysses led the party to the main control desk to deactivate the power. As soon as the power went off the shuffling figures in the shadows began to converge on the party's location. In a pained and crackling voice, they demanded the power be restored. They momentarily got their way as Ulysses followed their request, which seemed to bring them physical relief. The party quickly shut it down again, which angered the creatures. After some provocation, one of the creature lashed out at the party with a electrified, whip-like tentacle. It hoped to physically intimidate them, but missed, instead it fried the circuit board of the main control panel. The creature recoiled in agony, pleading the party to fix it. Ulysess said he couldn't, not easily. He'd take a look but it would be a while. To appease there seeming physical distress the party bribed them with a power cell to take them to the centre of the copper chimney. The creatures obliged.
In the centre of the chimney they found a being, vaguely humanoid in form, made of pure energy. He seemed to recognise Gao, though Gao was unfamiliar with the creature. He identified himself as once being Vinxentii Kovali, the leader of a crack squad of professional adventurers who Gao met when he and his friends joined Stazia. He had been sent to the power station by the Cloud Giants to steal the source of the power, and in an accident during the attack he had become this energy creature. He'd found while the station was powered up, he himself could serve as the power source, him and the station forming a symbiotic relationship. However, with the power station powered down, he was slowly dissipating and would soon die. The party 'fed' him a power cell, to keep him alive while the control panel was fixed, and once it was up and running, Vinni and the creatures that used to be Ulysses' colleges seemed much happier. The only thing the Ulysses' mentioned in passing was that, while the station was outputting the correct amount of energy to the city, it seemed to be generation twice as much.
The party decided to head back an alert Viktii of this, and no one had the head for this techinal jargon.
