CD Issue 5: They go to jail, we go the mall

General Summary

Fresh off their victory against The Trust and The Chemist, our heroes return to their various dwellings to catch some sorely needed shut-eye.   Aliena returns home to expect her foster family, George and Zella Chadwick, embedded in their normal nightly routine. Instead he finds the couple looking deeply worried, seated at the kitchen table with Dorelan Mags, her cousin and monitor on Earth.   The Deyan ambassador to Solis expressed his deep concern for her behavior: staying out late at night and ignoring local customs. He did this in the 4th form, creating a fascinating insight into the structure of the Deyan language. Dorelan told her that the only reason she was allowed to Bæknöt was because she promised she would assume local customs. After some back and forth, involving some 2nd and 6th form cattiness by Aliena, the youngest Dissident was cowed into apologizing and promised to behave somewhat. Her cousin accepted the 'apology', and promised the Chadwicks that she would be on her best behavior, and then departed. Before Maggie could escape to her room, George revealed he had self taught some Deyan, and understood part of what was said.   Meanwhile, Siren found her empty house the same as when she left it: a lonely mess with pizza boxes and dirty clothes strewn about. She sunk into some easy relief and soon fell asleep at her keyboard.   She awoke to find herself in a dream, chained to an ivory throne, in the guise of a princess with two featureless statues above her. She mustered her magic energy and broke free, and the statues crumbled. She turned to find herself accompanied by Dream Doctor, who told her that this place was her construct, and with a powerful sorcerer like this was as much prophecy as dream. Siren conjured a horse, and the two rode the fields. They passed a grove of minstrels, hung by their ankles. A field of steampunk brass eyestalks, tracking their every movement. Two dueling knights, one black one white, disappeared as they near collision. The sun was eclipsed and the world was shrouded in darkness. Dream Doctor said he knew someone who could teach her Covenant Magic, but there would be a cost. She awoke to find a card on her desk, with magical symbols appearing eventually to present a way to find a teacher for her chaotic power.   Malware returned to find the Spiderweb a mess, having forgotten they had enacted Protocol Omega. They engaged in a deep cleaning and passed out.   Paladin snuck back in his foster parent's two story brownstone, the owners fast asleep. Snacking on cold pizza, he delved into the internet, looking for clues about the fate of his old teammates, The Teen Squad. But all references had been scrubbed from history, as part of the purge that followed The Exodus.   -----------   The next morning, the crew assembled at their favorite hangout: Vanleeuwen Mall, aka the Cloudwalk. Malware dodged targeted ads, while Aliena nommed on some Nummy Boars Richie geeked out about how great the mall was, and Siren sulked about her dreams. The group was then ambushed by Sidney Strand, half brother of Styx and CEO of Jiggle Corporation , who was a tremendous ass to everyone present. Malware's normal bio hacking did not seem to affect him at all. Sid seemed very set on getting Malware to come to the Canopy Cotillion Ball. After an awkward interrogation, Maggies sheer enthusiasm prompted Styx to accept.   This demanded a shopping trip, which of course required a montage sequence. Styx chose a magnificently colorful jumpsuit complete with cape. Richie got outfitted with a tailor made unnecessarily expensive suit. Serena picked out a fitted sheath dress with a flared skirt and orange stripe, and a black headpiece, feathers. Maggie had a colorful flouted prom dress complete with sneakers.   Next week: the big dance!
