Chapter 2: Session 9 Report
General Summary
After settling into their new HQ and home. The party knows that Gauntlight can't wait any longer. They have successfully explored and rooted out the dangers that reside on the first floor. They also have new... friends in the Mitflits. They know that lower levels of Gauntlight await them and so does their strange quest given to them buy Boss Skrawg to kill the Mushroom eyed people. After running errands in town and Tristan visiting his friend Vandy at the Dawnflower Library, the party is ready to head back to Gauntlight.
The party previously discovered two passages to the lower levels. The first passage they discovered was a stairwell that the Osprey Club reportedly descended into Gauntlight through. It was located on the Island North West of Gauntlight. The second entrance they disovered was a stairwell that was hid behind a secret door in Belcora's Study. The party decides to take the route through Belcora's study. Upon entering the lower levels of Gauntlight, our heroes are faced with a foul, moldy and musty, odor from the long abandoned basement of the keep. They find themeselves in a small barren room that's fifteen feet long and wide. The room is empty save for 3 chairs lined along the eastern side of the room, and a door on the Western side.
Upon careful observation, the party discovers a poorly hid door behind the center chair that leads into a narrow hallway running North and South. On the Northern end of the hall is a door that is outlined in a ghastly green aura, and to the south the hallway ends about 15 feet from the room the heroes exit. The hallway ends, but there are two doors a small door to the east and two large double doors to the west. The party heads toward the southern in, and they decide to investigate what lies behind the western door. Slade allows Cowen and Kurama to take the vanguard, and he assumes a stealth position to attempt to surprise any enemies they may find.
Cowen enters the room through the left double door and Kurama through the right. They enter a large open room but the southern portion of the room is inaccessible due to the floor above it collapsing in on it. The room is a filthy mess and smells of old rotting fish. Littered around the room are half-eaten fish, cat-sized beetles, and bits of waterfowl lie strewn about in a tangle amid gnawed bones of larger creatures.
Cowen spots, upon entering the room, 4 small hunched over creatures that appear only slightly larger than the Misflits they encountered above, but they are actually only about a foot shorter than the average human man if they stood upright. The creatures feature huge white eyes resembling a mushroom cap as they bulge outward and pale, almost appearing transluscent, skin as if it has never seen sunlight.
The creatures hiss, and they immediately charge the party. Though the party makes swift work of the creatures. Slade rushes into the fray cleaving and chopping two down, kurama tubles in and lands several flurry of blows, slade lands several arrows into the targets, Geoff overtakes his foes with his chill touch, and Tristan finishes the last creature by calling on the blessings of Sarenrae and striking the final foe down with a divne lance.
The combat appeared almost choreographed, and even the party appeared to be shocked by their ability to fight with one another. A party that met one another for the first time only six days prior. The party is finding themseleves to not only be more powerful in their own abilities, but they also are finding their abilities to work as a team improving after each encounter they face. Slade has fought alongside Slade for his entire life, so he is an expert at shooting around his friend who finds himself in the front of the battle. Slade is also finding his ability to do the same around Kurama coming almost naturally. Geoff is no stranger to these encounters, but has typically found himself fighting foes alone or at most with one other person who is likely to also be a spell caster. Though he is having no trouble at this point to dispatch his foes around his melee combatant allies. Tristan has only practiced his healing on
