Curse of Strahd Session 7

General Summary

15th of Mid-Ardent, 1736

The party manages to repel the attack from vicious blights and druids of Yester Hill. As a token of thanks, Davian Martikov reveals he is party of the Keepers of the Feather, and that Antonin, their father, would be proud of them. He also mentions that the party can stay the night at the winery.

Davian reveals the attack was orchestrated by the druids of Yester Hill and Baba Lysaga. They loathe their presence here and even sabotaged the land by taking a precious gem that kept the land fertile. Now, the fields slowly wither and the wine to keep the people happy slowly fades along with it.

Tired from a long day’s journey, the party decides to rest at the winery, preparing for a trek back to Vallaki and deliver the late wine shipment.

16th of Mid-Ardent, 1736

Emerging from the Svalich Woods are five of Strahd’s agents on horseback. The one leading the group points to you all. Then, with a little sleight of hand, draws a letter from their sleeve, “The Dreadlord has provided you an invitation!”

About a quarter of the way into their journey back to Vallaki, Strahd’s cloaked agents meet the party. They give them an official invitation from Strahd von Zarovich to dine in Ravenloft. The agents then ride off into the Svalich Woods.

The party finally reaches Vallaki to meet with Urwin Martikov but come across a celebration going on in Vallaki. The Burgomaster, Vargas Vallakovich, tried holding a lovely ceremony that involved the burning of a wicker ball. A complication came about where it began to rain and the Baron’s torch sputtered out just before the flame made contact.

A laugh came from the ranks of the guard. Insulted gravely, the Baron singled out the guard and demanded he be dragged up front at once. Clovis Fevre casted a sleep spell, putting both the baron and his wife into a peaceful daze. The guards proceeded to continue as if nothing occurred to save their man.

In order for the festivities to continue, a woman named Fiona Wachter stepped up and lit the wicker ball herself. The crowd cheered meekly as if the Baron lit it himself but the holiday continued on.

At the Blue Water Inn, the party received their reward from Urwin of 50 florens for each of them for this effort. The party then went to Mount Baratok to investigate the sighting of a dog up in those snowy mountains.

What they found was a dog, a golden retriever, in torn wizard robes and hat. He laid pitifully with his human familiar standing by, rolling his eyes. The party met Spud, the famous dog wizard.
