Session 24: Let's Plan a Heist!

General Summary

We picked up in the moments after last session:   The moaning zombies pushed their way way through the large bronze doors of the ruin's inner sanctum. Inside, on top of a large red-glowing runic circle circle stood three figures: a large, hulking hezrou; a robed human holding a withered staff in one hand and large tome in the other, large horns protruding from his head, chanting softly under his breath; and the recognizable frame of Davrilindil Lantandal.   "I told you they'd come for me!" Davrilindil shouted to the warlock, "now get me out of here!"   A battle ensued, with strikes being taken on both sides. Though he began to a slow start, the warlock quickly set up a wall of fire to protect himself and Davrilindil. The undead horde amassed by Gregory went up in smoke, and several party members found themselves engulfed in magical flames.   Unperturbed by the fire, the party's new warforged battlemaster charged the warlock, making sword strikes with uncanny quickness (thanks action surge!) he ended the spellcaster's concentration before knocking him out entirely.   Attention moved quickly to Davrilindil. With nowhere to run, he lunged out viciously against his former captors. However, numbers were against him, and between being blinded and set aflame, he was quickly outmatched. In a final panic, he lunged for the opening rift to the Abyss, only to be stopped short by a swipe of Ronin's sword. By the end of things, Dav found himself crawling blindly across the flagstone floor, burnt, soaking wet, with a hoof pressed firmly against his back.   The hezrou took a bit longer to kill, but the party had it cornered before long and it caused little overall difficulty for them.   The party destroyed the demonic transportation circle, collapsed the chamber, and set off back to the inn with Davrilindil polymorphed into snail form. There, they magically crafted a custom manicle backpack apparatus, left him in the care of Ronin, and finally got the long rest Medran had been complaining about for hours.   In the morning, Medran set off a trap in his newly acquired demonomicon, the party discussed with to do with Davrilinidil, Cristos Demonsbane set off to turn in the head of the warlock to whatever organization he and Ronin work for, and the party headed to New Town to figure out this whole "magic auction" business.   Through some investigation, they discovered that indeed, a portion of Morgran's sword did seem to be up for auction, as well as many other magic items that were of interest to the party. There was much shenanigans, but ultimately the party met with Dorian, guildmaster of the Guild of the Nine Stars, and convinced him and the sword's owner, Quinten the Guilded, to trade them the hilt and a selection of potions of healing in exchange for their "magical robot butler," aka Ronin. Seeing an opportunity to make (a ton) of money, the two businessmen agreed, terms were agreed upon, papers were signed, and Ronin was handed over, now officially the property of the Guild of the Nine Stars...
