Session 19: Expedition to the Vulture's Shadow Report

General Summary

The group starts by looting the abandoned encampment found within the cave and find:

  • 8 purple gems within a rusted chest.
  • A Sanctuary spell scroll
  • A Speak with Animals spell scroll
  • 7 barbed, poisoned arrows (+2 to damage).
  • 4 barbed, poisoned darts (+2 to damage).
  • A metal amulet affixed with a red gemstone in the centre which incites the following image:
  • A swirling ball of some kind of red fluid floating over a cavern floor that is in some places hidden under thick piles of sand. The whole cavern is cloaked in a thick black mist that wraps around the few dozen pillars all pointing towards the centre of the red ball while more sand continues to trickle down from above. Garm is unable to recognise this image.   They then head back to Detritus with the head of a warforged who matches the description that was given to Maximilian. (10 days travel). Garm is able to find out about the Tausken effect as well as the red swirly fluid being commonly associated with Sokta in mythology. The 8 gems are sold for a total of 720gp though the jeweller in Detritus is not experienced enough to know much about the Tausken effect so he tells them of another Jeweller in Vannderscort called Wrolys who is more experienced. In the meantime, Maximilian teleports back to Blackfire keep and tells his superiors of his adventures, though they tell him the warforged has already been recaptured and there was never any artifact; it was a communication mistake. Halie generously pays 50gp to the church to repent for the damage done by the group and they sign up to The Pit VI, winning their first game pretty effortlessly.   Once they arrive (2.5 days) Garm is able to find Wrolys who tells him about Tauskenite and offers 1000gp for the amulet, though Garm declines. The group head back (2.5 days), win another quick battle and head off on their expedition after Garm spends a lot of time researching into Sokta. On arrival, they are sent to scavenge the local village that the camp has been set up in and are able to find the following, as well as a cellar which they begin to clear out:
  • 170gp (pocketed by the group... how uncool)
  • An extra 20gp.
  • A full metal arm, with a light blue hue from where it would join the socket.
