Session 7: The Black Letter Report

General Summary

Party is gathered in the Lentis Colony, deciding what to do with the town and people inside. Drayton offers to claim the place for Corgastor. The rest of the party, caring little for religion, is indifferent about the new faith being enforced, but didn't want to have the town ruled by the Empire of Corgastor. Drayton agreed, entered the church, and struck up an icon of Corgsator, the open hand. That was certainly an improvement, at least in his mind. The rest of the party was concerned elsewhere, and that's when a visitor arrived bearing strange news.

The man wore a quilted doublet of a deep rusted red, and sauntered over to the party with an air of clear purpose, differentiating himself from the moping masses of those who lived here. He had a grin on his face, one that exposed his comfortable confidence. This couldn't be good news. He gave a cough and waited until the party's attention has on him before speaking, and when he spoke he told the party about the wishes of his master. There was going to be a small dinner held on the capital island of Nevan, and the party was invited for the occasion. No fees or repayment necessay. In fact, there was already a ship waiting in the docks at Papan for their arrival, all they need to do is show the crew this letter. At that moment he withdrew a black matte envelope from within his doublet, passing it to Drayton, being the closest to him. The party acknowledged the letter, but gave no immediate response of yes or no, but rather asked questions to the man. However, answers were for forthcoming. The man in the doublet told that party that his master preferred secrecy, and would rather meet the party in person. After a time, the party finally decides to at least hear out this master.

Party fights pirates, which have been prominent since the Empire of Corgastor pulled back its navy during the Drakarian Wars. They survive, slaughter the surrendered pirates, and continue to the capital island of Nevan. What the motives of the pirates, beyond plunder and slaughter, might be is unknown.

Arriving there, they are welcomed to a beautiful castle along the shoreline. They meet with the lord there, who had given the party the black letter. They eat dinner, without poison this time, and discuss business. The man introduced himself as Viktor Alabastor, leader of the Island Mercantile Federation, one of the five major Mercantile Principalities that make up the Nevanese Trade Alliance. He wanted the party to work for him like Lucius had, though without the over zealous antics and rampant greed. The party declined to serve outright, but was willing to work with the IMF as the Graeven company, keeping a professional and nonbinding relationship. Viktor agreed with those terms, and the next step in this long campaign of intrigue and madness continued. Corgastor protect.
