Dealing with the capsized enemy ship.

Anna questioned Stinky Pete as to what he was doing. He told her that he was manning the sails. Anna asked Capt. Rolen what they do with traitors and Rolen replied, “Carve them up, hang them from the deck and let the other crew spit at them.” Anna intimidated Stinky Pete and sent him back to work.

Rolen considered how to flip the ship over to take it. The rest of the officers convinced him that salvaging it would take too long. Rolen and Lucky had the ship “slow” and then dove into the water. They swam into the ship. Rolen went to the captain’s quarters. The first thing he found was the captain’s chest that had 600gp and 60pp. He grabbed all the pp and 480 of the gp. Looking up Rolen saw an officer treading water above him in an air bubble remaining in the cabin. Rolen cast water breathing on him and pulled him down. Rolen pulled him back towards the ship and boarding the Charon, he took the prisoner to the Brig.

Lucky found the cargo hold and saw barrels falling towards the bottom of the sea. He grabbed a barrel of rum. He found medical supplies, ship’s supplies, ale, and other general ship cargo but had no way to salvage anything else. Lucky swam into the crew’s quarters and looted all the chests. He collected about 506 gp, a nice pirate hat, and a dead parrot. Lucky kept 6gp in his pocket. After about 30 minutes he left the ship and surfaced. He polymorphed into an eagle and flew to the Crazy Suzan.

Aiding the Crazy Suzan

Anna saw that the Crazy Suzan was flagging down the Charon because they wanted to execute some ship repairs. Anna told Rolen who had the ship slow down. Lucky landed on the poop deck of the Crazy Suzan with Capt. Pryor and turned back into himself. Lucky offered to help repair the ship and Capt. Pryor told him that they already had a ship’s Mage. The Crazy Suzan pulled up next to the Charon and commenced with Ship’s repairs while Lucky went to find the Suzan’s Ship’s Mage Ugh.

Ugh from Clan Lee

Lucky found Ugh, a scrawny and hideous looking Orc. Ugh recognized Lucky as one of the Heroes from his poster. Ugh explained that he got interested in magic from his cousin Ugh from Clan Morhun. Excitedly Ugh told lucky that he made something for him. He brought him down into his lab area that was a total disaster. He gave him a special voice activated sending stone that had several unique properties:
  1. It can be used to send 3 messages and then needs 1 hour to recharge.
  2. It is voice activated. Simply speak and then say send to send the last 25 words to the Crazy Suzan.
  3. When there's an incoming message it'll notify you by a subtle pulsating glow. Not enough to really draw someone's attention but if you're looking closely at it while in dim light you should see it pulsating.
  4. The one problem he noticed is that it doesn't always work when you're inside a wooden structure.

The prisoner

As the Crazy Suzan slowly approached the Charon, Lucky went up on deck and swung across to the Charon. A boarding plank was placed between the two ships as each crew lashed the ships together. Capt. Pryor went aboard the Charon and Joined Rolen and Lucky to interrogate the captured officer. They went down to the brig and Rolen asked, “Who are you.” The prisoner responded, “Berthold Leez, First Mate, 64321.” Rolen asked a few other questions to which his response was always the same.

Rolen walked into the cell and with his dagger intimidated the prisoner. First Mate Leez said, “You’re going to kill me anyway, why should I tell you anything?” Rolen promised not to kill him, and he’d let him go at their next stop. Intimidated, Berthold opened up. He showed them the wanted poster. It was a bad copy of one of their portraits with the words, “Wanted” across the top and “10,000gp deliver alive to Capt. Hitch of the Dark Jewel” across the bottom. Rolen asked if Leez had worked with Hitch before and he told him he hadn’t. Rolen asked “How did you find us.” Leez explained that he knew when the ship was going to be ready and assumed they’d set sail as soon as it was ready.

Leez told Rolen the plan was to capture the Order of Heroes and sail towards the Purple Rocks. They were to raise the pirate flag but stay at least a mile south of the Port of Vilkstead and Hitch would eventually see the ship and meet them. Rolen like the idea and asked Lucky to make a Pirate flag. Lucky got on that. Rolen told Leez that he would be dropped off at Gundarlun and Leez asked not to because King Shniska wasn’t very nice. Rolen inquired about Shniska and Leez explained that Shniska has a fleet of 200 longboats, and they attack Pirates. Rolen asked Pryor what they’re delivering to Shniska, and Pryor told them spices for his pickled herring.

To Gundarlun

Lucky prepared wonderful meals the first few days of the journey as they went headed to Gundarlun. Rolen explained that he’d like to act as a pirate ship to draw the Dark Jewel to them. Lucky had to remake the Pirate flag to be a bit less gaudy. Lucky showed the party the cool sending stone he got. Lucky also recast Simulacrum to recreate Al. Anna stayed in the Crow’s nest most of the time and Lucky created his mansion for the officers.

Along the way Lucky, cast Hallow on the ship to protect it from undead and protected the crew from being undead. On the next day he was going to cast Forbiddance, but he decided not to do it quite yet. He could use it to protect the ship from celestials, elementals, fey, fiends and undead from teleporting into the ship. Lucky would choose the password of “Ducia is a Dunce” for the spell.

The port of Gundbarg in Gundarlun

The Charon let the Crazy Suzan enter the port first and then it pulled up alongside it. The crew lashed the ships together. There was one dock for loading and unloading and there were other docks deeper into the harbor that housed about 200 long ships. Capt. Pryor called Rolen to bring the officers with him. Lucky wanted to go cast a spell on some guards to protect the ship, but Capt. Pryor told him that Magic is forbidden here. Lucky grumbled and went along.

Anna quietly cast “Alarm” on the plank between the 2 ships. Tyrena and Jaquette stayed behind to watch the ship while Lucky, Anna and Al went up towards the palace. Rolen and Anna peered back and saw a very large number of crates being offloaded from the Crazy Suzan.

A 6’5 muscle bound tattooed man holding a 2 handed Scimitar in one hand approached the officers. Even though the temperature was below freezing the tattooed man wore no shirt. He greeted the officers gruffly and told them to follow. He said “Shniska wants to meet you.”

They went into the front door of the palace that was carved into the stone of the cliff in the harbor. They heard a cacophony of noise echoing through the stone halls. They walked by scores of guards and were amazed at the number of halls and rooms inside the mountain cliff. They realized that there could be thousands of people within this hold and the halls are a complex maze.

King of Gundarlun, Shnadelai Shniska

Crow lead the party to a large but fairly plain door and let the party enter. Inside they saw an older human who was very different than the others they had seen. While the vast majority of the men they had seen were built like a gladiator, this man was average height and slender. He was perhaps late 50’s with greying hair and wore clothes of a wealthy merchant rather than those of royalty. He had a wanted poster of the OoH on his desk and was excited to meet each of them. He learned the names of each and introduced Crow and himself as King Shadelai Shnisak. King Shniska told the OoH that he had a job for them as he heard of their reputation “The Order of Heroes gets it done.” Lucky told him that the OoH is expensive. Shniska explained that a reputation is just gossip and that he too has a reputation. He had Crow open a door to see a man hanging by a leg, clearly tortured to death. Shniska then told the OoH now they know his reputation is fact, “is Solid.” He went on to say, that if the OoH do this job for him then their reputation is solid.

Rolen asked “What is the job” and Lucky asked “What’s in it for us.” Shniska looking at Anna asked “You do not like I kill this man?” She responded, “I’m sure he was a very bad man.” Shniska said, “My Wife’s nephew…” He then went onto explain “The Mine Job.” He explained that there was a small village with a mine that Hitch had taken over with undead Frost Giants. He told the OoH that he wants them to kill all the Frost Giants, collect their heads and locate the stash of gems they had mined. Shniska offered the reward that Hitch offered for them plus he would loan them ½ of his fleet to help him hunt down and kill Hitch. Rolen’s eyes seemed to light up at that offer. Shniska then warned them, “If you steal from the mine, then, your reputation, only gossip, and things between us, not so solid. Yes?”

Shniska told them that while they are here, they are his guests, but Magic is forbidden. How they choose to deal with the Giants however, he will not restrict. Anna asked if they’re required to bring back the heads. Shniska had Crow open another door that revealed a very long marble hallway. All along both sides of the walls were mounted hundreds of heads of all sorts of creatures. Shniska said, “I want to expand my collection.”

Journey to the mine

Shniska posted 6 guards outside the Crazy Suzan on the docks to protect the ship. He also offered all the officers a room in the local inn. Rolen went to the harbor with his dust of dryness and was able to convert a cube (15’) of water into a small pellet. Lucky did some fishing, and the party spent the night resting. Anna slept on the ship. Lucky, Al, Rolen and Anna joined up in the morning with Crow who showed them the way. They passed by several villages until Crow told them that the next village is where you will find the mine and Crow stayed behind. The party went on until they found a destroyed village. Looking up the hill towards the cliff they saw the mine entrance.

Giants at the mine.

Outside the mine they saw 2 Frost Giant Skeletons. Lucky, Al, Rolen and Anna examined the landscape and saw that they had a disadvantage as the giants held the high ground and the snow would be difficult to get through. Anna cast Ashardalon’s Stride and melted a path in the snow as she ran up hill surprising the Undead Giants. Anna pulled out her whip and stuck the 2 creatures making them vulnerable to fire. Rolen pulled a star from his robe of stars and hit one of them. Lucky took advantage of the fire vulnerability and shot a fire bolt at the badly wounded skeleton. Al followed up destroyed one of the Frost Giant skeletons. Anna repeated her attack on the skeleton and 2 Ogre Zombies came out of the cave.

The creatures all tried to hit Anna, but everyone missed. Rolen stabbed one of the Zombies with Bookmark. Lucky and All continued with their firebolts, and Anna continued with her Whip making all the creatures vulnerable to fire damage. She then punched the skeleton and destroyed it. More Ogre zombies came out. Anna dodged the blows and Rolen took a bit of damage from one of the Ogre’s morning stars. Rolen took out one of the Ogre Zombies with his crossbow and horribly wounded a 2nd with Bookmark. Al cast slow and slowed 3 of the 4 creatures. Lucky cast fireball hurting Anna, Rolen and all the creatures, killing 2 more of the Ogre Zombies.

Anna attacked the Ogres with here arm and 2 Frost giant Zombies came out to join the Fray. One of the Frost Giant Zombies struck Rolen and the larger one struck Anna with his Axe. Rolen killed the last one of the Ogre Zombies and then cast his blade of disaster against the Frost giant Zombie slicing it up. Lucky shot a firebolt at the skeleton and destroyed it. Al cast command at the to Zombies and they both dropped to their knees groveling. Anna cast mind whip at the 2 zombies. Rolen sliced into the smaller frost Giant Zombie and used his blade of disaster to destroy it. Lucky shot a lightning bolt at the larger zombie. Al made them continue to Grovel.

Anna cast catapult flinging a rock towards the Zombie but missed him. Rolen slashed into the Zombie and used his blade of disaster massively bloodying the creature. Lucky cast command but the Zombie was able to resist. Al tried and the Zombie resisted again. Anna ran up to hit the creature but missed her first strike and hit on the 2nd, stunning the creature. Rolen again used his blade of disaster dealing 111 damage to the creature destroying it.
