Session 10: A Party Walks into a Bar

General Summary

Party found their way to The Spotted Bar around 8:30pm, met Ilda Drake at the bar, got some drinks, asked about the bar's name   Slaax Trowsire will show up around 9pm

  • Abe asked about his fur patch and if Slaax had heard of anyone else with the effects
  • Slaax's patch of fur seems to be going away, albeit slowly -- seemed to dissipate quickly at first but these last couple hairs aren't budging -- he's pretty sure he's not contagious in the same way the fish were because his dog at home licked his ankle a few nights ago and seems fine (but gave him and the missus a terrible scare)
  • He heard of a sailor by the name of Floslyn (chaotic AF) who ate some fish a couple weeks ago and can't get drunk now, and was kicked off her ship for spreading it to another sailor just a few days ago... but he's also saw when Loois Switchtrick first hauled in the mutated fish and flung it aside, he immediately shrunk by nearly a foot but by the end of the day he was back to normal height (still pretty short though lol)
As they were talking to Slaax, noticed people going into a non-descript door off the main room -- asked Ilda if it was the bathroom (it was not, and given that they'd clearly never been here before, she'd advise against them going down there). Bel snuck over and went down, saw the fighting ring. After brief exchange with Jetson Drake (you bettin' or fightin'?) he went back upstairs and reported the fighting ring to Abe & Zoran   Quoji Ertix Nibis Uricorin showed up just after 11pm
  • Got a secluded booth, PCs said they want gunpowder bombs, he "obviously doesn't formally trade in those goods" but he could arrange to get them for a price.... will ask why do they want them (as an informant for the Guard he wouldn't sell them for anything too serious)... you could get shoddy black market powderhorns from half a dozen kids in the slums, but he's guessing they want something a little more well-made if they're coming to him
    • For good powderhorns sealed magically against water, cost 35gp each
    • Setting fire to a powderhorn of gunpowder causes it to explode, dealing 3d6 fire damage to creatures within 10 feet of it (A successful DC 12 Dexterity saving throw halves the damage)
  • Ultimately talked Quoji down to 6 for 150gp, he agreed under the condition that the 150 would be in gold won from the ring downstairs (basically money laundering for him, less traceable) -- being newcomers, the odds should be good. Conditions: if they win him money, that can be deducted from the total, and if they lose him money that'd be added to the total.
Pit Fighting!
  • Pit Fighting Mechanics
  • Odds for any of them will be 3:1 against Noska Ur'gray, 5:1 against a lithe-looking woman in too-clean sailors garb known as Janshai, 10:1 against the reigning champ Hugo Keildtan (young human, crazy muscles and very little body fat, looks absolutely feral)
  •
    • Signed up to fight with scrawny clipboard guy -- Zoran against Jansai (5:1 odds), Abe against Hugo (10:1 odds)
    • Bel & Abe each bet 100 on Zoran
    • Quoji bet 15 on Abe, Abe and Bel each bet 100 on Abe (Abe borrowed 60 from Bel)
    • Zoran beat Jansai handily (3 to 0), Abe beat Hugo in a close fight (3 to 2)
    • Abe and Bel each won 1500gp -- Jetson was utterly shocked and did not have 3000 gp on hand but would get it to them ASAP
Quoji got his 150gp, said he'd speak to his contacts and arrange for the goods to be left inside a barrel of pickled herring, which can be picked up from Danora Cromwell's stall in the Old Dock Ward any time after dawn tomorrow (although if they wait too long the herring might start to smell)
