American Courage: Session Four (Finale) - Disabling the Activator Panel and Escaping Alive Report

General Summary

Members of the New Champions worked their way through the underground base on Zug Island and through the freshly dug tunnels to find an over-acting “Activator Panel” on the outside of the emergency-docked cargo ship.   Pretending to be agents (dressed in protective gear), they navigate to the end of the tunnel and successfully manage to convince the three VIPER agents that they are “supposed” to be there. Even more, Cypher managed to deactivate the activator panel, thereby stopping the threat of the spreading molten-metal transformation.   All the while, the agents eventually pickup on the act being put-on by the New Champions. When Stevie zaps the ship with his laser, they figure it out quickly, "This isn't VIPER tech!", they scream! "WHO ARE YOU GUYS?"   A battle ensues with Maximum Resistance leading the way and the heroes ultimately prevail...but not before making a new enemy -- out of one extremely strong and well armed agent.   Before making their exit, Wildthing noticed the faint heartbeat of Dr. Julia Young — her skin a solid sheet of metal, but somehow still alive...barely.   Sandcrab emerged from the underground base in time to examine the doctor, recognizing the depth of the transformation that had occurred and carrying the metallic doctor to safety. Free from the “darkness” of the underground base and with their communications restored with Socrates, the team confirmed that Dr. Young was not a threat and likely only made a devastating mistake in her research.   A bit more digging reveals that Dr. Julia Young is a chemist working with the American Steamship Company to develop a chemical compound that can be retrofitted to their fleet of ships built in the 1970s. Her research is at the use-case stage and she has been traveling aboard the vessel, American Courage, observing the behavior of her most recent composition as it reacts to the steel in live conditions. The chemical solution was applied to the ship’s hull just a few days ago, before it departed.   Will she survive the accidental chemical overreaction — the accident she caused?!
