Session 83: Mother's Meeting Report

General Summary

4th of Erntenir 1524 continued   It’s a long inky and icy battle that ends with Erin screaming as she continues to beat up corpses with their own limbs. Karl swoops in to calm her and get her out of the water so she can warm up. Fargrim and Lily see to the crew and others, agreeing to take a break here before looking around to investigate this basement. Fargrim is distracted by an area that seems to be sucking water in, which is probably why the room never overflows and there feels like there is a current. Lily looks for secrets around the area, but doesn't find any. However she does spot the ziggurat is covered in glyphs. It seems each side is covered by a single glyph so there are 4 different ones in total. Lily is disappointed the mask translates them to gibberish.  

Erin helps Karl to climb the ziggurat so he can look more at the symbols. Focusing inward, Karl can feel a slight tingle on the edge of his senses. Before heading back to the manor, they search the bodies. Each of the bodies has an ancient golden necklace. They take them, decapitate the bodies and head back to the mansion. There the group enjoys a short rest with some people having a soak in the tube and others just relaxing.   At 11:30am they head back out with Karl joking that Fargrim will be made his high priest if he keeps up the jokes and treating him like a king. They head upstairs and struggle with some doors that are left for another day and instead explore what they can. They find some manacles that seem to be in great condition. They remove them from the wall and take them with them.   They also find human sized barracks that have piles of dust in them. After searching the area Lily finds a solid mass of silver coins that are all stuck together, a jade statue of a panther and a silver amulet that is not corroded from the dust.   As they continue to explore the upper area they come across an open door. They sneak up to door and can’t see much but do hear movement inside. Lily busts out some spiritual guardians and the creatures inside surge forward to fight the group. These large creatures have grey skin that almost seamlessly with it’s claws and teeth. It hunches forward as it stands on two legs. The creatures do a number on Xeldarix and in the end she sets forth an explosion of divine radiance which helps the group to finish them off. It takes a while for Xeldarix to come down from her Divine Wrath and is quick to take it out on Uqaviel. Afterwards the group searaches the area. Fargrim and Lily finds some ancient platinum. 160 pieces in total. Karl finds 6 gem stones and Erin finds a dusty rose gemstone shaped like a prism.   They continue to search the area. They open some doors to find an area with bodies before a statue that radiates a faint light and mist. Lily can see a giant sized tooth sitting on a ledge of the statue. She doesn't recognise it. It seems more artful than figurative. She also spots faint magical runes around the statue that suggest a magical trap. Karl theories that something is trapped within the statue. The runes bind it and release the energy of whatever is trapped inside with additional runes to recharge the release of the beings ability. Lily looks over the runes and believes it might be a banshee. They search the bodies before leaving the room:
  • Damaged breastplate.
  • Damaged and dirty ink jar.
  • A sling.
  • A gold ring with gold trim.
  • There are 90 copper, 367 silver and 254 gold coins.
They continue to explore. As they approach a door, behind a series of closed doors, the floor drops out beneath Xeldarix and Lily. A 7 ft wide chute and lined with razers. There is not enough room in here to fly and the pair of them together get cut as they fall. The floor closes behind them. Lily and Xeldarix fall before sliding to slide as it curves. It comes to an abrupt end out of the side of the temple. Xeldarix manages to get her wings out and catch Lily before she hits the ground.   Lily uses her stone to tell Karl what happened and they head back to meet up with the group by going through the entrance again. While waiting, Karl and Erin search the room and find the hidden lock to bypass the trap but don’t have a means of disabling it. They wait for Lily to return to do this. Lily heals herself and Xeldarix when they return.   With Xeldarix holding onto Lily and Fargrim enhancing her dexterity, Lily is able to disarm the trap. They open the door beyond the trap to thankfully see this room is not empty. There is a stone pedestal that stands in the centre of this dust-free chamber. There is a 1 foot diameter gold hoop that frames a clear crystal pane pedestal. They use the wand of detect magic to see the item and the pedestal are magical. Karl ritually identifies the pedestal. Through this he discovers the Clerical spell Flame Strike is set to trigger at the highest possible circle if the item is removed.   Karl does the same thing to discover what the crystal pane is. This is the codebreaker. It has comprehend languages and read magic on it. It is specifically designed to look at blood glyphs and can't help people read any other language. The blood glyphs are not a language and as much the standard spell for it does not work on them outside this device. Deciding to put on a show, Karl takes the item from the pedestal and with the power of his divine bloodline, he doesn’t take any damage from the trap. Erin is rather upset with his reckless behaviour. Karl it seems was trying to impress the crew and give them a story to take back to the ship to spread around.   They head back downstairs. Fargrim heads for the mansion with the crew and Kosines, while Lily, Wave, Xeldarix, Erin and Karl go to look at the Ziggurat in the basement with the codebreaker.  
In the basement Karl looks through the crystal to check over the runes. Through the glyphs Karl sees what they mean and realises they are constellations. The glyph's means: Power of the sea, Giant's blood, Vorynn's wisdom and magic, and crystals to represent connection to Earth/Cerilia. Realising this might be it, Karl tries to attune, but after a short time he realises this is not it. There is a hum that almost sings to his blood. Karl can feel magic around him, but... it's not quite here. This is not the point of power. It's close though. This ziggurat is connected to it somehow but is not it.   After a bit of discussion they head back to the mansion.  
At 1pm, when Fargrim is halfway through preparing his first bird the group returns. Lily pulls out items they found and discover with the help of detect magic that the sling, ring, gemstone and silver amulet are magical. Karl will read the book Erin has been using to guide them here. Fargrim keeps working on food and Lily has a relaxing bath.   When alone, Erin explains the nature of the book is a little smutty as a warning to Karl before handing it over. As they talk, the subject of Fargrim and Darghest comes up. Karl asks Erin to keep the necklace they got from Darghest’s followers on as he reveals why she in particular was likely able to be controlled so easily by him. Karl reassures her it should be fine, but better to be safe than sorry. He then settles down to read Erin’s book.  
At 6pm, when dinner is servers, Fargrim makes a big show from the kitchen setting up side dishes and such before revealing the big dish of the evening. He brings out the cooked lizard birds, stuffed with all kinds of dressing, veggies, herbs and spices. As they enjoy dinner together, they discuss scouting out the cavern a little before stopping for the night.   After dinner everyone has a short rest, and through the magic of Fargrim’s cooking, they feel completely refreshed. Except for Erin and Xeldarix who didn’t eat the bird creatures.   At 8pm they head out to explore. Lily helps them to move quietly as they scout around. As they explore, they find cracks and send Xochitl to slip through and search. They do with a few possible ways out of the cavern. They don’t confirm any true exit, but learn there is much to explore. They find a larger tunnel and hear things moving inside. Lily sneaks in alone to see some white maned lions. They leave them for now and continue exploring. They head back to the manor as midnight approaches. Lily scries on Lorenah to watch her sleeping.   Karl finally remembers to identify the items from earlier.

5th of Erntenir 1524   At 7am the next morning everyone meets for breakfast of baked goods, eggs and fruit with a coffee and tea service. They discuss their plans and what magic they have ready for the day. Karl tells them about the items he identified when they got back last night. Karl asks if Kosines can use the sentinel shield and amulet of health until they get back to the boat and Erin approves this.   An hour is spent so Kosines can attune to the amulet before they head into the runes at 9am. They head up to the door they failed to open the day before. This time they succeed in opening it to see a heavily clothed figure turn towards the opened door from atop a second ziggurat. The group talks with the individual whose name is Ramesh, but in the end a fight breaks out as he suspects someone within the party has the bloodline they desire. Xeldarix unsettles Karl mentally as she tries to reassure them that it’s okay to kill them as they’re already dead. It turns out there were three undead creatures here that seem to be mummies. They add urns to their search list. They search the area. There are some books in Khinasi and Masesian. As well as:
  • A cloak
  • Potions x3
  • Chainmail
  • Strange looking bolts x6
  • 50 gold
  • 40 silver
Karl looks over the ziggurat with the crystal panel:

Karl focuses but the tingle of the area is less here. They continue to search the remaining areas on the floor. They find stairs up, but check the last few rooms before heading up. They find some black, corroded mass of silver. At this point Karl notices Wave has a blue boil on his neck. The group stops and Lily heals Wave to remove the illness that likely came from the day before. They head upstairs.  
As they start to explore and search this new floor they find pallets of goods with Ramesh’s name on it. They look to be luxury items and furniture. As they continue to explore, Lily sets off a trap that hits her and Xeldarix with a thundershock. This trap was protecting another pallet of goods. This is fine food, wines and other perishables. Lily and Erin notice they don't seem to have gone bad. Fargrim just gets hungry. Karl is distracted by the fine wine. Karl gives Fargrim a wheel of cheese to snack on.   As they explore they struggle with a door and Karl has to use some magic to open it. They find some human sized stairs going up, which is new compared to all the giant stairs. They leave them for now and continue exploring. Eventually they find a giant throne. A mammoth chair of stone and metal sitting on an inscribed disk of unblemished iron. Erin spots some words written in the iron that she can read due to her ability as a monk but it’s not a language she is familiar with.   Karl climbs on to the throne. When he does, Karl realises he can see the night sky despite being underground and it probably being day time. As they talk, people notice as he mentions the phrases from the ziggurats that certain words light up. When Karl finally names them all, he disappears and Erin panics. Lily suggests she climb up there and upon doing so, Erin disappears too. Lily sends a message to check on them via the stones.  
Karl is atop black stone that decends down in five massive steps, each 10 ft high. There is a red rune beneath Karl. He is only alone with a moment before Erin appears beside him. He examines the rune with thecode breaker to see it says “Throne”. As Karl is talking to Erin, he disappears again as he explains what the rune says before he can reply to Lily’s message.  
As Karl reappears, he realises that Erin didn’t come back with him and the constellations are out. He says them again and disappears once more. Lily and Fargrim agree to wait 5 minutes before following them.  
Once again appearing at the top of the steps, Karl finds that Erin isn’t at the top anymore. She’s gone. He whispers for Erin, but gets no response. Instead he hears a loud noise of something heavy hitting something with a pained sound of someone crying out but it’s muffled. Karl calls out loudly for Erin and she yells back for him to run. Hearing Karl has returned and possibly going to be in danger, she is able to get out from underneath the giant construct that attacked her while Karl was gone. She gets up and runs for him, but can’t make it all the way to him just yet.   The large construct turns and raises a hand so the palm faces Erin as the metal opens up like a flower, runes light up across the creature as it fires at her. It hits her hard and knocks her prone. Then it moves with frightening speed for something of it's size that walls up the stairs since it is so large. It slams Erin hard. Karl frantically calls for Erin to run to him as he throws up a wall of force to block the construct from following or attacking her. Erin runs up to Karl, wheezing heavily, unable to take a deep breath. Karl says throne again and they disappear from the room.  
Less then a minute later Karl and Erin reappear. Erin sways, holding her side, looking bruised, bleeding and battered. Karl helps Erin down from the throne, which she accepts the help without complaining as Wave and the crew all flock around with worry for their captain. Karl does his best to explain what happened as Erin struggles to speak and breath at the same time. Fargrim runs over and pushes a high level healing spell into Erin. As Fargrim heals Erin, she tries to cry out but only a wheeze escapes her as she falls to her knees and grabs her side. Erin is struggling to breath even more so now. Kosines looks Erin over and discovers that her ribs were broken and have been healed in their new position which is pressing into her lungs which is preventing her from breathing properly. She needs water so she can rely on her gills instead of her land lungs. Panicking at the sudden medical emergency Karl puts his hand on Erin and grants her and himself flight, then he grabs her and flies her to the mansion.  
The rest of the group takes the long way to the mansion without issue. They find Erin and Karl in the baths.  
Erin is not a super active participant but the spell means she doesn't really need to be with Karl being the driving force. Erin just holds onto Karl. She's a lot bluer then usual by the time you get her to the baths. As soon as her gills are under water and moving a bit more colour comes back to her. She blinks a few times but suddenly looks very tired. Karl comforts Erin as they wait for the others, discouraging her from speaking unnecessarily as it seems to be a struggle even in the water.   He looks over at Erin and can see her chest under her shirt; the shape isn't what it would be. The ribs that define the shape of the chest area are dipped on one side. Erin explains when asked, that the creature looked like Ten but bigger with glowing runes. It had Ki which means like Ten, it is alive.  
When the group arrives Karl and Lily talk about the injury and their surgery options to fix this. Karl tells the group in full what he knows about what happened. They give Erin one of the sending stone so she can talk without hurting herself with Lily. They agree to wait an hour so Karl can recover some of his arcane energy for the surgery. Erin will nap as this is very tiring. Lily and Fargrim will take the time to mentally prepare themselves.   After the rest, Lily gathers everyone so they can begin. Fargrim enhances Lily’s abilities with the wand. Erin carefully takes off her top and Lily poisons her so Erin doesn’t have to be conscious for this. Lily cuts Erin opens, breaks each rib and manually puts it back in place before healing the bone again. Erin’s blood fills the bath and Karl uses Prestidigitation to keep the water clean. A second dose of poison is needed as Lily continues to work. When Lily is finished, Fargrim casts Regeneration.   Erin starts to thrash as she cries out in pain as she breaks free of the poisons hold. Karl tries to restrain her with telekinesis. He can’t contain her and Xeldarix jumps into the bath to try and hold her down. Erin uses Xeldarix's momentum to force herself out of the bath and leave the angel behind. She hits the ground with a thud and she grabs her side. Karl tries again to restrain her, this time more successfully. Erin tries to fight it, but is clearly weakened from everything as she gasps for air. Karl moves her back into the water. After the healing spell is finished, Erin is spent. Karl checks to see if she feels better and can only answer with a very tired nod. Erin curls up in the bed for a bit of a nap. Karl will spend the time while Erin rests ritually identifying the things they founds today. Lily sneaks away to her room to sit. Fargrim will play solitaire.

At this stage Karl realises Erin looks distressed in her sleep. Karl wakes up. She wakes and jumps, tries to move away from the hand touching her, finds herself hitting the side of the tub and she winces. She seems calmer when she sees Karl. They talk and Erin is feeling much better but everything aches. Her head feels foggy and overall feels very woozy. Erin gets dressed again while Karl explains what he has identified. They move to the bedroom so Erin can lie down more comfortably. Karl helps her to the bedroom.  
As Fargrim plays cards, he sees Karl take Erin to the bedroom and waits for Karl to return. However, he never does, not realising Fargrim is waiting for him.  
Xeldarix is with Lily, comforting her after the hard surgery. Xeldarix doesn’t like how much this upsets Lily having to do the hard and horrible jobs. She wants to learn how to do surgery too so it doesn’t always have to be Lily. They agree they need to get Fargrim to ask Simone about the fey deal and how to get out of this. Xeldarix sneaks into the kitchen and gets them both some chocolate, hot chocolate and other little snacks. After a while, Lily heads out to find someone to play cards with.  
Karl helps Erin to lay down. She keeps some contact with him while he identifies the remaining items.

By this point Erin has drifted off to sleep again. Her breathing is a little off. Still deep and even but sometimes it's a sharp intake and she shifts a little in her sleep. Karl lays down next to her to have a nap.  
When Lily and Xeldarix come out to the main area, Fargrim waves them over to play cards with Wave and the crew. They talk a little. They decide at 1pm to go out and try to talk to the lions while Erin and Karl rest. They leave a note for them and leave Wave, Kosines and the crew with the note so that way no one panics when they find the mansion empty.  
When Karl wakes, Erin is still asleep. He leaves her to head out to the main area. He finds Wave, Kosines and the crew. He tells them how Erin is going and they talk about possible plans moving forward. Especially with fighting this construct. He waits for the others to return when he is told where the others went. Kosines is worried the Captain is suffering from blood loss since constant cleaning of water made it hard to track that.   Kosines and Karl talk about their different experiences with Family and guilds.  
After half an hour, as they are approaching the area where they think the lions are, Lily hears something following them. They are attacked by 10 undead humanoids. Fargrim, Xeldarix and Lily get rather hurt in the fight. The undead creatures are confused when Fargrim accuses them of being the mummies’ servants and it confuses them as they ask whose mother they speak of.   When they finished the fight, the search the bodies. They do have 20 silver, 49 gold, 28 copper. They then head back, deciding they are not up for a second fight if it comes to that with the lions.  
At 2pm Lily, Xeldarix and Fargrim return. They find Karl sitting with the crew, Wave and Kosines. Upon asking how the group went, Karl learns they didn’t make it to the lions and were attacked. They talk about doing a little more exploring of the ruins, and Karl wakes Erin to see if she is amenable to the idea. As he wakes Erin, he sees she’s not feeling well. She’s cold and clammy. He tries to purge the poison that might still be in her system but his wand seems to have no effect. As they talk Karl becomes concerned Erin might have a head injury, especially when she doesn’t put up a fight to go with him. Instead he tucks her back in, just to wake her up a minute later with food as Karl had forgotten Kosines was worried about blood loss. He leaves with the group and Erin is very confused as she tries to put together the yoyo of visits.   Karl leaves Wave and Kosines to look after Erin as everyone else heads out to explore. They head up to the third floor. They find a locked door. Naturally they unlock it and are faced with three giant skeletons that pull the door wide open. With a casting of Slow from Karl, the fight becomes manageable. Though the skeletons surprise the group by throwing lightning at the group. Fargrim is nearly knocked out by this as he continues to push healing magic into the group. Xeldarix explodes with Basaia’s light which does a lot of damage and blinds them. With them blind, the group easily finishes them off one by one.   With the threat gone they search the room. Vivid mosaic tiles cover the floor. Two doors hand partially closed along the right wall. They are empty rooms. Lily can see that the mosaic's depict a stylized version of a construct with runes in vivid colours. It reminds her of the runes that appeared on Ten when he had his... moment in the prank. They all examine the mosaic and discuss a few theories about it. Karl didn’t get a good look at the one that hurt Erin to say for sure if it represents it. They grab the things by the throne and head back to the mansion.   Wave has moved Erin to the couch with a lot of blankets. She almost has a nest and seems to be sleeping there. Wave quietly greets them as they return. The group quietly talks about their possible plans to battle the construct tomorrow while Fargrim gets some snacks. They also talk about Lily fey deal. Lily writes a question to give Fargrim to pass on to Simone. Fargrim finishes baking cookies and Karl wakes Erin up to have cookies. Seeing Erin still struggling from blood loss Lily tells some of the spectral servants to bring Erin a mix of nuts and dark chocolate.   Erin tells them what she remembers from the construct. Big, reminds her of Ten and has control of the room. Karl explains his current ideas of a plan for it to Erin. Afterwards Erin has another nap while Karl identifies an item he forgot that he found at the lizard camp, Fargrim and Lily step out to scry and contact Simone.   Fargrim learns Simone is busy. She takes the question but is using her abilities to stay ahead in the political issues she faces. She’ll send back a reply when she can. Lily is unable to scry on Lorenah. They return inside as Karl identifies the Gauntlets of Ogre Power.   The group then talks more about the construct while getting ready for dinner and relax for the rest of the day. At 9pm they all head to bed after committing to preparing key spells for the next day.   6th of Erntenir 1524   Everyone is up at 5am. As they prepare for the day it becomes very obvious Erin will not be fit to fight the construct. Karl tries to get her to stay behind, but she convinces him to look for the Mummy urns instead. Erin borrows the Sling from their treasure hull to use for the day.   At 8am they leave the mansion to head back up to their third floor. They take Erin to the mosaic and she confirms that looks like the construct. As they continue exploring the find a very old camp. At least 30 years old. They’re wary of possibly trapped doors and look for ways to go round.   They uncover some more human sized barracks and a strange room with a sarcophagus. It’s weird as it doesn’t seem to open. They search the room and find a small chest with 4 vials of red liquid and some cutlery and crystal wares. It’s likely someone brought this stuff here. Karl casts Stone shape to open up a wall to find many urns in a secret room. As they step inside Ghostly spirits raise up out of the clay urns. As Lily summons her spirit guardians the creatures damaged summon help and the room gets very crowded. They steadily fight through the spirits and their summoned friends when near the end, the mummies appear near their urns. The Mummies run and Karl calls after Ramesh about wanting to finish their conversation from yesterday. They are reduced to urns once more.   In a bit of a rage, Fargrim goes and destroys the other urns, getting covered fully in ash and inhaling some. The group help him clean off. They try to destroy the urns. Two of them are affected by Fire and Radiant damage while the last isn’t effected by any of their spells. Karl promises to have different spells that might work tomorrow.
