Session 82: Drowned in the Basement Report

General Summary

2nd of Erntenir 1524 continued   Before bed Karl and the crew search the bodies of the drow they killed.

Lily heads downstairs to talk with the elf behind the bar. She is a little disappointed to see a change in shift. She asks to see if anyone has heard of a family member, but sadly they don’t. She returns to her room to wait out the night.   3rd of Erntenir 1524   At 6am Karl gets up and ensures his crew has a fancy breakfast to pamper them for volunteering to go on this wild mission.  
As soon as the sun is up, Lily leaves the city. She turns into an imp and then a bird to fly towards Xeldarix.  
At 7am Fargrim is up and ready for breakfast. He goes to see his guild afterwards. He wants to set up a follow up apprenticeship with baking and confectionery.  
At 8am they head back out into the ruins. They notices when they go outside that the bodies have been moved overnight. They’re still in the same spot but clearly something has touched them. They cautiously head back into the ruins with the driftglobe to guild them.   They find a room full of mud that form tunnels. This is where the drow was trying to run to. They leave it for now to check the rest of the floor. They find some large doors and Erin hurts her back trying to open them by herself. Karl rushes over to help her as Wave and the crew take over opening door duty.   There are lots of little rooms in a line with large doors on each side and eventually open a door to come face to face with a large scorpion. It grabs Erin and Wave in it’s claws while everyone does their best to kill it. They ensure it’s dead, but it seems to have been blooded and let out a wave of black lightning as various people absorb the bloodline.   They search the room to find:

  • Iron rod with a feathered serpent carved into it.
They continue through more doors to end up at another entrance to the mud tunnels. They start to explore them and are attacked by rats with no skull over their brains. They hurt Karl very badly with one bite and are slowly chipping away at the group. Half the crew are unconscious but a bit of healing gets them back on their feet. They then carefully retreat to the manor to rest. They then take a break to rest. Karl walks around checking in on all of the crew to see how they're doing and try to reassure them. Erin is relaxing in the tube. Trying to gently stretch out her back. Karl comes and gives her gentle back rubs.   After the short rest they noticed that the corpses had been moved again. They cut off their heads and bury the bodies. It takes them nearly two hours. Then they venture in to continue exploring.  
At noon Fargrim heads to the ceremony after stopping for a “snack”. All the teams are gathered in the town square. Tydallen (from the cooking contest) is the spokesperson for this as well. He will recap all of the events, the winners, and any spectacular feats the parties accomplished. He will then give each of the members of the Adventurer's Forged (and an extra one for Lily) a special gold leaf token.   Tydallen looks at the crowd and speaks. “This Gladiator Gold Leaf is good for one round of free drinks for every person in the tavern at any of our fine establishments during the Harvest Festival, so you may want to find out where this bunch is staying tonight!”   The Saviors are given Silver leaf tokens. They're good for ten drinks. They are actually really gracious with their loss, including Marco. There is a little bit of trash talking about how they gave the Adventurer's Forged a run for the money and promise to be back next year for a rematch.   Once these rewards have been given out, two men carry a chest out onto the stage. It has 500 gold in it for the Adventurer's Forged. The men sit it down in front of the winning team and Tydallen calls for one final round of applause for the winners before ushering everyone off stage.   Fargrim talks to his group and they take the chest to the guild. Though then he remembers Lily is due to come back soon and needs to rush back to the manor. He gets the guild members to take the chest back to the guild for him. He arrives at 1pm and casts the circle before messaging Lily to tell her she has an hour.  
At noon Lily sees Xeldarix and Uqaviel. Xeldarix grabs hold of Lily in a strong hug as soon as she can get a hold of her bird form. Lily shifts back to herself for a better hug. There is some gentle reprimands as they talk about the situation.   As they land and look for a good tree, Lily sends Karl a message to check in. She asks if he needs help. Karl wouldn’t object to the help and tells her it has been dangerous here. Lily makes plans to join him tomorrow without consulting with Fargrim. Lily tells him about the kidnapping.   After getting a message from Fargrim, Lily casts Transport via Plants and takes them back to the manor.  
Karl and Co search the mud area after doing laps to look for secret doors. They found some chests. A few with coins and one with items. They take them to the manor before continuing to explore.  
When Lily steps through, she is relieved that there is no issue with a rift. Xeldarix heads upstairs for a nap with Uqaviel heading outstairs. As soon as Xeldarix is out of the room, Fargrim admits he had a lot of problems being the only adult for Xeldarix in the time Lily was gone. He can’t seem to handle her intensity. Fargrim also admits he was afraid of her. Lily apologises and tells Fargrim what happened.   Afterwards Lily makes plans to go to the guild to divy up the prizes, send people to Holr and prepare for joining Karl tomorrow. Fargrim needs to go and cancel his apprenticeship he arranged. He also gives up his share of the gold. At 1:15pm they split up.  
Karl and Erin discuss how they will safely get Fargrim, Lily and Xeldarix safely here with teleporting. Then finish exploring the floor before heading back to the manor for the day due to Erin’s hurt back. Karl takes time to scry on Lorenah. However, she’s just eating lunch and don’t get anything good about it.  

Fargrim takes care of business at his cooking guild. Apologising for any inconvenience him cancelling his plans with them for the next week. Then he does to check on the refugees at the temple of Neira. He donates 6 gold when he arrives before going to the High Paladin Salma’s door. He updates her on Lily’s return. The High Paladin is concerned with the refugees taking up infirmary space. She doesn’t want to ask them to leave, but due to the nature of needing beds in emergencies, she can’t tell when the temple would need the space. Fargrim contacts Lily about this.  
Once Lily gets to the guild, she’ll head inside and gather the participants if they’re around, and get the gold to divvy up. Lily takes 50, gives each other person 90, and gives Fargrim’s 90 to the guild, and thanks the four of them for taking part, and apologises for missing the last day.   Then she selects the people to go to Holr on the escort mission. Jysdar, Marabel, Hoelat, Queg, Nalian and Ailred are selected. They will prep today and leave in the morning. Lily will return in the morning to give them windwalking so they can travel quickly and safely to their destination. Then Lily heads back to the manor.   Just after 2:30pm as lily is flying to the manor, she gets a message from Fargrim about the refugees. Fargrim resolves to make arrangements with the town guards about a fund for the refugees to help house them. She arrives back at the manor at 3pm.  
At 3pm Fargrim arrives at the watch once he has finished talking to the high paladin. However, Fargrim gets a bit confused over where the latest refugees came from. It is quickly cleared up with Galloway. He explains their situation. Faragrim sidesteps writing a report and is asked to request Karl make a report upon his return. Due to that likely being a month away, Galloway will do what he can to find out what happened, but that is the only action put forward at this stage. The watch will focus on getting these people home.   Fargrim then goes shopping for supplies before returning to the manor at 5pm. He updates Caramella on the fact they will be leaving tomorrow.  
Karl and Co count coins and review the items in the other chest. He also double checks the rod from before to see if it is magical. He identifies the items that need it.

They then relax for the rest of the day. Though he does check in with Lily to see if they can get a bag of holding before meeting up. He’ll spend time scribing Stone Shape afterwards.   Metamagic Rod (Maximize, Lesser) The wielder can cast up to three spells per day (of 2nd level or lower) that are maximized as though using the Maximize Spell feat.  
At 6pm dinner is served. Spaghetti and meatballs. Lily checks in with Simone on how the rest of her time at the festival went. They also discuss what happened to Lily with the fey situation.   After dinner Simone does a reading for Lily. Lily asks the following question “What lost arts is Kriesha’s Fire seeking?”   “Kriesha’s fire enjoys their position of authority as they marvel at the art of their work and who decorates their wall. There is no hiding from her sight as she looks for those who have escaped her grasp and will enjoy watching them struggle. Both of elven kind, one of the sea and practically royalty while the other is half but does nothing by halves. The art’s freedom is enjoyed for now and they should not yield it, lest they hang on her wall until their dying breath which she will ensure is many years away.”   Then later that night they head to bed.   4th of Erntenir 1524   At 5am Lily gets up and prepares for her day. At 6am Fargrim is up and sneaks early food before breakfast, however Lily walks in on him and they have a sit down breakfast. They discuss meeting up with Karl. Lily needs to go to her guild before she leaves though. They agree to go together.   Upon arriving at Lily’s guild, she gives them a partial map of the area to help them. She then makes them air. She then messages Karl. They arrange to meet up. Fargrim and Lily arrive at the mage guild at 9am.  
At 6am Karl gets up and has coffee with Erin. Karl is relaxing and waiting to hear from the others. Erin, Wave and Karl do some yoga together until it’s time for Karl to leave.  
After a delivery by Master Barnes arrives, the circle is free for the group. She has a wagon of maybe explosive yarn. Fargrim catches up with Master Barnes about Uqaviel’s possible shadowing of her. The other Master’s are not overly happy with this. The other Master’s should formally meet Uqaviel and Xeldarix should agree to a code of conduct for this time.  
When 9:25am arrives, Erin and Wave watch over Karl while he draws runes on the ground. When they step outside they are confronted by many reptile, bird-like creatures. He closes the door and rallies the troops to deal with the deranged chickens. Once they are dealt with Karl teleports to Brechlen. He brings one of the bodies with him to analyse.  
At 9:30am Karl arrives at Brechlen and updates the party of what caused his delay and the situation at the ruins. He drops off the body with druids. Then they teleport back to the cave. Karl tells them more about the location now they can see it.   Fargrim looks over the ruins. They’re older then most Dwarven settlements and were likely giant designed but human/elf made. Lily looks over the animal bodies and finds the bile might be good for building material and collects two vails worth. Would be good for just under a week. She advises the group could use the meat for food. While Fargrim contemplates what to do with this information, Lily flies up to look over the ruins.   When Lily returns, Fargrim is sad he doesn’t have his bag of coldings. She suggests he eat it raw as Darghast probably doesn’t need it cook. Fargrim is able to resist just eating the birds now. Karl tells him to put them in the manor.   They then discuss their plans before heading into the ruins. They head downstairs into the basement. They find a barred door that might be keeping something in. Fargrim and Lily try to work together to open it but it’s a struggle. Lily turns Karl into a giant ape to open the door. Water flows into the room starting at knee high and equalising at shin height. They try and sneak into the room but 8 drowned zombies hear them and a fight breaks out. These creatures have a cold aura that makes the fight difficult. Will they make it through okay? Erin gets mad, people become blind and something is weird about the ink they spit at people.
