Session 55: Exploration and Coordination Report

General Summary

31st of Haelynir 1524 Continued     The group goes into the table room with the food to plan how they will approach this golem. The following ideas are brought up:

  • If Munafik is there, Lily will signal Xeldarix to use her smite like ability that she often neglects.
  • Karl casts Clairvoyance to check on the situation they will walk into
  • Fargrim smash (with his axe!)
  • Trying weak spells to see what it does
  • Using Arcane Hand to hold it at bay
  • Karl turn into a Giant Ape to attack it
  • Lily summon her dragon friend.
  • If things go wrong back out and use Wall of Force on the tunnel to keep it away.
  • Fargrim use wand of Enhance Ability (Bull Strength) on Giant Ape Karl.
  • If Fargrim loses concentration on the wand chance to blessing the weapons of the group
  • Aeryn is given a bottle of Alchemist Fire to drop on the creature
With these ideas in mind, the group starts to make their way to the golem. As the group slowly works their way up Lily summons a gem-like dragon at the back of the cave. Karl requests a bit of healing before they begin, forgetting the waterfall had hurt him. He starts to prepare mirror image while he waits. Xeldarix heals Karl a little and so does Lily. Karl casts Mirror image and Polymorph which turns him into a Giant Ape.   Lily signals for the group to run in and Aeryn hurls the vial at the golem and misses before retreating to a safe distance. Lily slices into the golem as her dragons attacks from behind. The dragon jumps forward and bites at the golem, then circles around it a little before unleashing a breath of pure energy that the golem seems mostly unaffected by. The golem moves and slams a fist into Lily and the dragon. Lily responds with a Hellish rebuke but it doesn’t seem very effective. Fargrim forgets he was concentrating on Bull Strength and casts Crusader’s Mantle to bless everyone’s weapon. Karl is Great Ape form lunges and grapples the golem. The attack misses but he does manage to Grapple it. Xeldarix takes 3 swings but frowns at the effort of it. Lily slices into the golem while she asks what is wrong and Xeldarix tells her it feels like something in the way.   The dragon shifts again so that it can attack without hitting Karl in its breath weapon. The golem responds by attack Xeldarix and the dragon, hitting them both hard. Fargrim hits the golem with his battleaxe twice. With another roar Karl forces the golem to the ground and punches it. Xeldarix slices at the creature. Lily joins Xeldarix in slicing at it. The gem dragon also keeps up it’s bite and breath weapon as the golem slams at the creature holding it. The first hit knocks Karl out of Ape form but the second hits a mirror image. Which has Karl looking very annoyed. Fargrim hits it twice before Karl pulls out his wand to finish the thing off.   The Golem slumps down and the golden eye turns black as a wave of black tendrils go out amongst the group, making their hair stand on end. As Lily sees what’s happening, she looks around and sees Karl struggling at the epicentre she snaps at Karl to snap out of it. Karl drops his staff, clutches his head in both hands and falls to his knees. The black tendrils are drawn into people and with that there is silence. Slowly, the group picks themselves up. It seems some of it was even absorbed by Fargrim. Lily looks for anything heart like in the golem. There is a crack over the eye in the chest and inside there lies a heart that looks very destroyed. Lily tosses in some fire to burn the remnants of the heart for good measure.   The group double checks the jar before Fargrim finally realises the significance of the jar and puts it down. They head back to the room with the food table. The group has a quick snack. Karl seems disappointed in this. They convince Prit to come out from under the table. Karl convinces Fargrim to heal Prit’s broken mind, which he does. When he asks the group who they are, Fargrim tells Prit his own names. This annoys the Dwarf as he repeats his question as to who they are and where are they. It turns out Prit has been here for 20 years. He was heading for Shoufal to look at a sphinx that a Dwarven wizard apparently made. Seems he got a little lost and found his way here. He’s from Ariya. After their food they return to the jungle area. They try the words Sessilan had used but they don’t seem to activate the magic that makes people float. They tie a rope to the door. Karl climbs down but the rope did slip a little with that. They decide that is not safe to try again.   Karl has a drink of the magic water before going over to use the altar. He turns it on and it lowers the affect of gravity, allowing everyone to jump down without hurting themselves. Sessilan comes out to see what all the noise was about. They test to see if Sessilan can leave and it seems the barrier is gone. They discuss with Sessilan where the group will take him and his people. There are 105 people in the pyramid. Karl takes the time to identify the wards on the pyramid. It is warded against teleporting and scrying. Prit agrees to stay in the jungle until everyone is ready to leave the pyramid since he has no idea how to get out.   The group takes a short rest here before going to explore some of the pyramid they haven’t seen yet. Karl also identifies the tome of cat summoning and a crystal dragonfly Lily had from Xeldarix’s temple.   Tome of Cat Summoning. By opening this aged, leather bound tome and reading it, you summon a normal cat. The cat lays upon the tome and does nothing else, but departs if removed from the tome or attacked.   Crystal Dragonfly. It’s wings are enchanted to move slightly and it can be looked through as a scrying device like a Hag’s eye.   Lily explains it belonged to a hag she killed in Brechlen in the sewers.
The group eats some fruit before getting ready to look at more of the West area. Lily casts Pass Without Trace on the group. Prit stays behind in the jungle. The group does their best to be sneaky. Fargrim can hear a hiss up ahead where they found the bandits and the Lamia. They agree to crackle the door open and have a look. Down the hallway the group sees snakes that look to have a metal sheen to them. They see the door open and like come out with a hiss and surge forward. The group doesn’t take long to deal with the four snakes. Fargrim did suffer some poison damage but his Dwarven constitution helped him deal with it.   Karl is very interested in these strange constructs. However, they are too heavy for Karl to take. They head for the room that had the sarcophagus where Lily had felt something alive hidden. She doesn’t sense anything now. She suggests they check to see if there is undead still here too since that is something she cannot detect. Karl opens the sarcophagus. An undead creature lounges out at Karl, setting off his readied attack. Behind it Karl can see a hole that has been carved through the box and into the space in the centre where many eyes open and look at him with a hungry growl. During the fight a ghoul paralyses Xeldarix and Fargrim calls upon Haelyn’s Might to banish the undead. Four of them are instantly destroyed. Lily discovers her sword doesn’t like attacking undead and hurts her if she hits one.   Looking closer it seems that the undead had clawed out of the back of their sarcophagi into the wall space in the middle of the room. Inside there are some strange magic webs. Karl collects some to look at later. The group continues searching. Fargrim casts Detect Evil and Good, however that doesn’t help him sense the three wraiths they run into as it was just outside his range in the next room. They’re gathered around something on the ground that shines.   The fight is not hard however near the end Karl forces one to kneel while another flees. Karl destroys the kneeling one and Lily uses her Heated Spear to destroy the other. The glowing item was a mace with symbols of Avani on it. They pick it up and move on. They find three rooms that have a catwalk that looks down to 30 ft below. They don’t descend down any of them but in the last room they see a chest. Karl uses mage hand to slowly empty the chest of the platinum inside. 500 platinum is collected. The group then heads back to the jungle to rest for the rest of the day.   The group talks about options with the boat and identifying the mace. Prit offers to give them a reward for rescuing him if they go to Ariya with him. However the strict culture puts them off. They discuss their options for what happens next. This includes:
  • Testing the (maybe) flying boat
  • Going to Ariya
  • Teleporting with the Masetians to Jarvis
  • Seeing if they can find the “Mirror Witch” for Fargrim’s mirror friend.
Karl identifies the mace as a Mace of Disruption. This one is named Bar-ethel which means True Death.   Afterwards Lily and Karl go up to look into the flying boat while Fargrim stays with Prit in the jungles.
Karl goes up the waterfall first, then followed by Xeldarix and Lily. The discussion seems to trigger a memory about Masela. She is pretty but looks sad, according to Xeldarix. While waiting, Karl had taken some time to look into the boat. Xeldarix heals Karl a little since he was hurt by the waterfall again.   Flying Boat. It has a fly speed equal to windwalk if used on the streams. By holding the part to steer you can see the streams. If not on a stream it will go at half speed. The streams follow leylines to places of power as a part of the weave of the magic of the world. If one is destroyed or corrupted the streams will change to avoid it. While in the boat you, like the boat, cannot be seen by others. Then there are instructions for making it go up, down and all the rest. The ruby is the source of the magic.   The group goes back downstairs and grabs a few more books from the library before heading back to the jungle with Fargrim.
Lily spends the first part summoning her new Greater Familiar while Fargrim and Karl continue talking about possible. Afterwards Lily joins the talks about what the group might do.   The rest of the day is spent journaling, reading, copying scrolls and language lessons for various people. Karl sends a message to Steve about the progress on the goal to bring Sunnis’ children home.   Afterwards when they start to feel tired they set up an 8 hour sleep with Prit involved so they have 4 shifts.   32nd of Haelynir 1524   The group wakes up and Lily offers everyone Goodberries. The group discusses how they will get the Masesians out of the pyramid. They decide to take everyone up to the real tomb, then check the temple below before bringing everyone down. Prit wants to make sure he is far away from the group before they start to teleport, so he wants to be in the first group out after the Forged has made sure it is free of dangers.   Karl removes the pineapples in the next room using the firebolt again before they proceed to check to see if the Masesian’s are ready to leave. The group takes the time to slowly bring everyone up. It does take a while but there are no complications. Once everyone is in the true temple, the Forged head down to the temple where they face a large number of Lamia and Jackalwere’s that they have surprised. The fight is long, but not overly hard.   Afterwards Karl uses his blood ability to detect for life and carefully goes around the area, to find there are more creatures in the pyramid. They quietly move the bodies and get the everyone down. By the time they are done the sun is only just rising. Prit heads off after trying to say goodbye to Fargrim.   Fargrim makes a magic circle around the area Karl sets up in to start drawing his teleportation circle. Karl teleports everyone to Jarvis after warning him. With them safely gone and nothing comes through the breach, the group heads back up to the boat.   Karl takes control of the boat and takes them through the painting. He takes stock of the horizon and takes the boat Northward on the stream. They leave at 7am. Every half an hour to fifteen minutes the group passes a dock. During the ride Fargrim and Lily take a short rest and Karl focuses on making choices everytime the river splits. The route:
  • North from pyramid
  • 30 minutes then East
  • 30 minutes then NE
  • 15 minutes the stream has become more Northly
  • 30 minutes NW turn
  • 30 minutes continue NW
  • 15 minutes take more Northly stream
  • 15 minutes continue North but the group notices the coliseum is to the NW
  • 30 minutes then NW
  • 15 minutes then N
  • 15 minutes continuing N.
  • 15 minutes continuing but it turns NE
  • 30 minutes NE
  • 15 minutes N
  • 15 minutes N
  • 30 minutes Lily spots Poden to the East
  • 30 minutes continue N
  • 15 minutes turns NW
  • 15 minutes continue NW
  • 15 minutes NW
  • 15 minutes turning NE
  • 30 minutes the mountains are in the distance and continue NE.
  • 30 minutes later NE
  • 30 minutes continue NE
  • 45 minutes arrive at the mountain town. The time is 4:15pm.
The boat seems to magnetise itself to the dock when Karl brings the boat up to the dock. When he does the dock becomes visible to everyone. It’s made of obsidian stone with a gold etching and a circle in the centre. After determining that this circle is a closed loop teleportation circle, Karl sends Aeryn into it to look around. Upon her return Aeryn communicates there was a room with a sand floor around another circle. The walls were sand and there were creatures with Jackal heads guarding the place. They were not aggressive.   The group goes into the circle. They arrive in a small room with no door. In the centre is a mirror of the circle they stepped into. The rest of the floor around it is sand. The walls are sand and so is the ceiling. One of the warriors of Anubis asks the group why they are here. The group requests to speak with Anubis. When they do speak with him they request passage to the city to see the children of Sunnis they sent to the city earlier in the day. Anubis comments on the celestials that accompany the group and separates Xeldarix from the group. Uqaviel is quick to show respect and request he stop but is ignored.   The group is quick to ask Anubis to stop and explain what they have achieved, but this does little to dissuade the psychopomp from what he is doing. He speaks of costs for achieving such things. Xeldarix is trying to escape but isn’t having any luck. Her distress is obvious. Anubis mentions her mind is in pieces and offers to fix it for the group. Lily tries to move to Xeldarix’s side but every step forward has her sinking into the sand further and further. She stops when she is up to her knees. Lily declares that Anubis fixing her is merely turning her into someone else. Fargrim apologises for them coming here and says they will leave.   Anubis gives them to option of returning to the skydock or going through a door to town as he releases Xeldarix. She collapses with the restraints gone and is scrambling towards Lily with tears rolling down her face and blood coming from her nose. Lily is quick to grab Xeldarix and take her to the teleportation circle. Everyone follows. Karl and Lily give the very distressed and sobbing Xeldarix what comfort they can. Karl is ready to take the group down to the town with everyone in the boat. Uqaviel follows fargrim and watches as the group gets into the boat, his hands clenched tight. He then steps back into the circle on the dock and disappears, not going with the rest of the group once he has seen them all in the boat.   Karl takes the boat down to the tower. Jarvis greets them and takes everyone but Fargrim to a house he has set up for them to rest in. Karl takes the mask from Fargrim. Once Karl knows where the house is, he walks with Jarvis back to the tower. Lily and Xeldarix rest in the house. Karl speaks with Jarvis about the wand and it turns out he took it from someone who he killed that attacked the city. When they meet up with Fargrim who is still at the tower, he asks about Uqaviel. He still hasn’t shown back up yet. They discuss gods and their actions. Fargrim waits outside the tower while Karl talks to the Humpheries.   A short time later Karl returns with a new book in hand and their pair go back to the house they have been permitted to stay in. They check in on Xeldarix and Lily. The group decides to stay the night here instead of heading straight to Brechlen. At 5pm Fargrim goes downstairs will go downstairs to look at cooking something up for dinner. At 5:30pm Jarvis arrives with cooking supplies.   Karl took a short rest and identified some spells in the new book he had. As Karl finishes this Fargrim brings up dinner for everyone. A fruit salad, and vegetables pan fried in butter and spices. The group is amazed and very appreciative of the food.   Afterwards the group spends a few hours relaxing. Karl and Lily stay in their rooms while Fargrim goes to look for Uqaviel. He finds him in Jarvis’ tower. He brings him back to the house and reheats some food for him. Uqaviel thanks him but reassures him in future he does not need to take Uqaviel into account with his meal prep. Afterwards Uqaviel goes up to see Xeldarix and Lily.   1st of Anarire 1524   The first day of a new month is a clear day. A warm day, but it feels almost cool compared to the desert heat. Everyone is up early. Xeldarix wants to be back at the manor, Karl goes to see Jarvis and Fargrim starts to cook up a breakfast for all.   After having discussed over Breakfast their options for Brechlen and seeing Sunnis they go to find Sessilan. They arrive at the house he resides in and ask if he wants to come or send someone else. They meet his wife Deiz (Day-z). They bicker playfully over who should go and in the end she agrees to go with the group to meet Sunnis. Fargrim casts Tongues on himself and regrets it when he realises what is being said. Deiz has dark skins, green scales on her forearms and cheek bones of her face with a snake tongue. Aside from that her humanoid features are pretty standard. Meanwhile Fargrim sends a message to Steve to let them know they are coming back today with one of the Masesians as a representative. He replies that the circle is finished and aside from admin stuff it should be okay to use. First day so no one else should be using it.   The group goes to Jarvis’ tower to secure the boat while they are gone, collect Xeldarix’s armour and Gus before using the circle in the tower to safely get to Brechlen. Once in Brechlen they go to see Steve and Fargrim casts Tongues on him so he can talk to Deiz. Sunnis is very grateful for the help of the Forged. She provides them with her blessing.

Carved in Stone

As a creature carved in stone, blessed by Sunnis, you have absorbed some of the power of the elementals. When you use any of the traits your blessing becomes obvious. Your skin changes in colour and texture to become a type of stone (granite, sandstone, etc) and may become rougher and harder. It bestows:
  • Stony Resilience. You gain advantage on saves against poisoned condition, and resistance to poison. You're immune to disease and have advantage on saves against fatigue.
  • Sturdy Form. You gain advantage on ability checks and saving throws again being knocked prone or otherwise being moved involuntarily. This means if you are grappled and someone tries to move with you you can make an athletics check to stop them as a reaction. This does not break the grapple, just stopping them from moving with you/dragging you around.
  • Earthen Shield. As an action, rocky material forms around your skin to protect you, granting you temporary hit points equal to your level that last until you take a long rest. Once used, you cannot use it again until you've had a long rest.
  • Enhanced Magic and Focus. You gain an additional attunement slot.
Fargrim notices his skin takes on a grey and red appears. Lily’s takes on a jade that seems infused by light. Karl’s skins becomes dark and onyx like.   Sunnis offers to help Xeldarix with her change in power if the group is spending time in Brechlen. She will need to have time to talk with Daiz and Steve to decide on the move to the mountain as she is containing a great evil. When Lily asks her to hide the evil sword Sunnis is unsure about helping since it might attract more attention to the area. She explains she might need help with an escort in future as she will be vulnerable while moving the evil to the mountain with her. She can’t defend herself and the contain the evil while on the move.
After all is done being spoken about with Sunnis, Steve takes the group up and walks them out. Karl asks about Steve and the other Master’s recovery, which he reveals was not as swift as he hoped and Trinity has been the slowest to recover. Karl reveals Erin is also not recovering well from her encounter with the shadow. Steve suggests the arm is dead and having a negative effect on the body.   Steve reveals, upon learning about Enna, that many of the royal Triton family have been killed and that Enna is reported as kidnapped.   Once they’re done talking the group heads for the manor.
The group arrives at 11am. Caramella makes them lunch while Lily sinks the sword of Gus into the stone of the basement. Once they have settled in and come down for lunch the group thinks about having a break from their goals for a moment to refine some things before continuing on with their goals. Fargrim wants to look more into cooking, Lily promised that Xeldarix would go to the temple soon and Karl wants to organise the books he got from the pyramid. They agree to take a break and touch base with one another regularly in case they need to do something.
