Session 14: A Lost Empire - Kenrith's Wereooze Report

General Summary

The party begins the session by talking with Balimaar. He suggests that the party go to check the woods if they've checked everywhere else.   They do well on survival checks tracking small footprints into the woods and find a bow and hair caught in a tree branch. In addition they find tracks of ooze.   They follow the ooze and eventually come across a thicket and find the missing girl.   They bring her back to town. Emma the mother is overjoyed, but Henry notices that the girl is acting a little weird. The party goes back out to the woods to re-investigate and find nothing. But its nightfall when they walk back and they see Maurelle leave her house making her way into the woods.   They follow her and she eventually notices Nolfravell's presence. She convinces them that she's only out to pick a flower used for the alchemy that only blossoms in the moonlight.   The party is wary but backs off and stakes out watching if anyone else tries to sneak out of town. They do not.   The next morning, Emma is the one who has disappeared. Balimaar is trying to handle the crowd. Adelard walks up and kicks everyone out. The party goes out to Maurelle's place and question her.   She doesn't let them in until Nolfravell tells her that Emma's daughter returned, but Emma did not. Maurelle tells the party that the town was starving months ago. She was desperate. She gave up her son to scientists at the Oaken College in exchange for food. The scientists delivered and hence the bumper crop. In exchange, Maurelle lost her son. Guilt ate her up and she eventually broke into the College to steal him back. But he was different. His appetite was insatiable and his intelligence far beyond his years.   She began stealing small animals to feed to him but nothing satiated the hunger.   Kenrith says the party has experience in curing curses like this. Maurelle agrees to take the party to her son.   They arrive and the boy is four years old in appearance but sounds older. Maurelle says that she will protect her son at all costs and casts sanctuary on him.   Nolfravell attacks Maurelle, knocking her unconscious. The boy uses his telekinesis on Nolfravell. The party continues to fight. At one point the boy slings off some of his slime and it spawns into a new creature. As the fight progresses, the spawn doubles and copy Kenrith and Nolfravell.   Eventually the party defeats Maurelle and the boy, but only after the boy has eaten many of Kenrith's memories.   The party makes their way back and Kenrith stops to bury Maurelle at her house. The other two make their way back to town only to find it eerily quiet. Emma's daughter pokes her head out of her house. Nolfravell knocks on the door of the tavern. Isabella responds, questioning if Nolfravell is who he says he is. Emma's daughter then appears super close to Nolfravell, tugging on his pants.   Nolfravell responds by attacking her. She defesnivly goops inside the barred tavern and there are screams. Nolfravell tries and fails to bust down the door, breaking it open but unable to move through.   They see Emma's daughter standing over Isabella, a goo spike in her chest.   Korac'h launches lightning at the two of them, killing Isabella and nearly finishing the girl.   Nolfravell angrily pushes the door blockage away, teleporting with thunderous speed and punching the girl with all his might. He smashes her into the ground and she bursts into goo.   He then drops to his knees, weeping quietly as Kenrith (having seen and heard the lightning) runs up.   The party sees that the girl also killed Adelard and Balimaar. They then have a giant funeral pyre in the center of town, solemnly burning the dead as the sun sets.
