Session 5: Razia's Relic

General Summary

After a few hours of walking Favole finally arrives at Vitu-Ghazi Park. There she is impressed by the amount of nature in this place. Even thinking back as far as her time with the Gruul Clans, she can’t remember ever having been surrounded by so much greenery. Another strange aspect seemed to be the activity, or rather lack thereof, of the people she saw. Where Ravnicans tended to be always busy, life here seemed to move at different pace. The people here, mostly elves, seemed relaxed, at peace.   While she lingers around the Great Tree, a guard instructs her that she would need an authorization to go further and that they can’t just let anybody in. Understanding, Favole makes her way to the Selesnya headquarters which from the outside looks quite… plain. Once inside however she is immediately reminded of the Ravnica she knows. People move with purpose and are clearly busy with whatever work they have. Going to the front desk she asks to see Cevraya and luckilyis able to get in touch immediately with her.   Once in her office she tells her of their findings about the Relics and asks the Selesnya ambassador if she has any knowledge on the subject. While Cevraya knows nothing about the Relics, she is certain that their Guildleader, being tied to the Parun Mat’Selesnya, might know about them. As such she takes Favole with her to go see them. Favole is surprised to be granted an audience with her guildleader so easily but Cevraya explains to her that Trostani tries to be as accessible as possible to their members, which is not an easy task seeing the numbers of the Selesnyans.   After having confirmed with the guard that Trostani didn’t presently have another guest, she asks the guard to announce them, which he promptly does. Once on the other side of the palisade that surrounds Vitu-Ghazi proper, Favole is taken aback by the density of the trees in here and she notices that what she had thought to be a giant tree from the outside is actually the accumulation of dozens of smaller (but still immense) trees. And yet at the center of it all she finds a clearing. At the center of the clearing she sees Trostani, the entity created by the fusing of the bodies and minds of three dryad sisters, and presently guildleader of the Selesnya Conclave.   After hearing her plea the dryads accept to call forth Mat’Selesnya who speaks through them. He explains to Favole that the Relics are nothing more than gifts that were bestowed to the Paruns by Niv-Mizzet to celebrate the signing of the Guildpact. He confirms that Razia’s Spear and Ciszarim’s Girdle are part of them and adds Szadek’s Key and an armour he was gifted to the list. He also reassures Favole that his Relic is hidden in a safe place. After sharing his knowledge with Favole, the dryads stop being a conduit for him and return to being themselves.   The next day they all gather in Nassius’ office to share the information they gathered, joined by Lydia. Lydia and Nassius take notes on everything they tell them but when Favole talks about Szadek’s key Lydia’s face is briefly contorted by hate. While nobody missed it, she immediately returns to normal and nobody dared question her about it. When the topic of Razia’s spear is broached, Lydia insists on going to look for it immediately. If the spear was indeed in Razia’s possession when she died, they should be able to find it in Razia’s Tomb. Determined not to lose any time for fear that members of the rebellion might come to the same conclusion, she accompanies them to the Tomb. Once there she uses her authority as a lieutenant to send the guards away and after having confirmed that nobody else is presently visiting the tomb, she asks them to inspect it while she stays outside to stop anybody from entering after them.   Once inside they notice that the Tomb is nothing more than a small square room with a sarcophagus in it’s middle. Everyone tries to open it except for Ophelia who considers this blasphemy, so she turns her back to them. While everyone else is pushing to open the stone casket, Ophelia notices that of all the Boros symbols you can see on the walls, one seems different. Getting closer to it she recognizes the old Boros symbol whereas all the other ones that adorn the room are the new symbol used after the signing of the latest Guildpact. Focusing on her patron she touches the symbol and to everybody’s surprise a new door opens, clearing the way to another room. Once inside the new room they see a life-sized statue of who they expect to be Razia, judging by her size and the fact that she’s holding a spear. Ophelia approaches the statue and once again reaches for her patron. Where before she had always felt a pleasant warmth whenever they had connected, now she feels only greed. “Yeeees, take it.”. Taken aback by these new emotions she subconsciously grabs the stone spear. But the spear is not stone anymore and where before there was a statue now she sees a real angel in front of them.   The angel interrogates them about why they wish to take the spear. Feeling no duplicity and a real sense of justice, Razia’s avatar decides to challenge them. Just as strength without justice is but tyranny, so is justice without strength powerless to help people. As such they must prove that they have the strength and conviction to carry such responsibilities. After an intense fight where Nitt flirts with death, the angel accepts their worthiness and bestows her weapon upon Ophelia. After having accomplished her duty she disappears, leaving the party alone in the room. Deciding to better understand the weapon they had been given, the party decides to take a short rest so Ophelia can meditate with it. She discovers an incredible potential and while she is able to tap into some of its power, it is also clear that the Spear still holds a lot more of it locked behind some kind of seal.   Not having any possibility to conceal the weapon, they decide to get out, where they are met with Lydia who had been worried about why they were taking so long. As soon as she sets eyes upon them she sees the spear and the only words that escaped her astonished self are “What happened?”
