Session 2: Social Sleuthing

General Summary

The flying horror attacks Favole and lets out a horrifying cry.   The party seems lost for a few moments but Ophelia manages to focus and casts a spell to help Varis get over his fear. Bolstered by their allies regained vigor, Favole let's her inner beast take over and transforms into a bear. Together, the team manages to beat the flying horror but as the killing blow is dealt, the horror stars disappearing.   While the party is intrigued about what just happened they hear a slow clap coming from one of the corners of the room.   The mysterious figure reveals himself to be none other than Olrik, Varis' childhood friend. He explains that this fight was a test set up by House Dimir to see if they were worthy of being entrusted with the current mission. While the rebellion seems to be trying to oppose the Guildpact, Olrik is pretty sure that at least one of the guilds is behind this. The reason why a guild is instigating an anti-guild movement is unclear for now, but what is clear is that it must be stopped. Unfortunately he seems to have gotten to deep during his investigations of the Azorius Senate and had to stop such as not reveal his true motives. He gives them a scroll and tells them to go to Telos at the market that will be happening the day after at the District Plaza.   Deciding to follow this lead, the party meets at the entrance of the plaza. While looking for Telos' fruit stand, they notice a commotion not far from them. Deciding to check it out, they see Cevraya whit her arms around a small boy, seemingly trying to protect him from four Azorius lawmages. Is is quickly made clear that the patrol wants to arrest the boy for stealing an apple. Cevraya offers to pay for the apple and the merchant, not wanting any more fuss over a single apple, accepts the money and decides not to press any charges on the boy. The grumpy lawmages explain that they just bought some time. This boy is an orphan and he probably will steal again. And without the protection neither of a family, nor of a guild, he will soon end up jailed. Learning of the boy's situation, Cevraya invites him into the Selesnya Conclave. The boy timidly accepts and leaves with her.   After the commotion disperses, the party starts looking for Telos' stand again and find him near the middle of the plaza. He tries to sell them some fruit but as soon as he reads Olrik's scroll he explains the situation to them. He has infiltrated the rebels but only at the low ranks. He has discovered that the rebels are mostly made up of naive youngsters who wish to abolish the Guildpact. Unfortunately he has no clue on who the leader is. They seem to employ smaller forges, such as not to draw to much attention to themselves, to craft weapons and distribute them. Telos has learned that the next, and final, order will be placed at the Burning Anvil this afternoon.   Following this lead, the party decides to go have a talk with the owner of the Burning Anvil. When they arrive in the afternoon, the receptionist tells them that the owner is currently in a meeting but that they are welcome to wait for him. After 15 minutes of waiting, the door to his office finally opens and they see the owner of The Grand Circus come out. As soon as he sees them he tries to flee but is swiftly apprehended by the team. They arrest him and take him to the Office of the Guildpact for interrogation.   While resisting at first, Ophelia's convinces him that it would be in his best interest to tell them everything he knows. He reveals that his name is Artos and that he was approached by the rebels in a time of financial need. All he had to do was deliver an order to a specific place, and they would take care of his debts. It is clear that he knows nothing more about his "employer", but reveals where he was supposed to leave the crates he was asked to transport. It looks to be an entry service to the sewers, and the party strongly suspects that this is where the rebellion's hideout is actually located.   After learning of this, the party splits to try to gather as many allies in their respective guilds as possible for what could possibly be the resolution of this whole mission.   Ophelia goes to Lydia Kos. There she learns that the Boros Legion has discovered three supposed entries to the lair of the rebels. After checking their location on a map they discover that they are all in close proximity to the location the weapons are supposed to be delivered, granting credibility to the suspicion that this is indeed their main hideout.   Varis tries to ask his mother, a member of the Orzhov Syndicate to try and find who might have coerced Artos but unfortunately none of the information seems to be helpful.   Favole, not being part of any guild remembers that the Selesnya Conclave was hit pretty hard by the rebels which had deeply disturbed Cevraya. She decides to go to her and ask her for help. Happy to be able to contribute to the downfall of a group that targets innocent people, Cevraya agrees to send them some Selesnya members to help them.   The Izzet League being a more individualistic guild, Nitt instead focuses on a way to fool the people who will be sure to be waiting to collect the weapons.   After having discussed with everyone, they decide that the party (with Nitt taking the appearance of Artos) will deliver the crates as planned. The members of the other guilds that agreed to help will split up and cover the three other known entries to the hideout. Once somebody comes out to collect the weapons, they will all storm the sewers together, hoping that the element of surprise will allow them to take on the rebels with as few losses as possible.   And so, the crates are delivered to the agreed place, and they wait for somebody to come collect them.
