27: Headless Horseman Report

General Summary

Meeting the Game Master

As the party go about their business in their mansion, entertaining their guests, time freezes for everyone other than them. Shortly after, an ominous red light erupts from the gazebo, and a doorway appears. Catlo'pas, a servant of the Game Master appears before the party and insists they come with him. After some hesitance, they follow and appear in a large dining hall. At the head of the table sits the Game Master, who propositions them to participate in his newest creation to entertain his audience. He offers them a reward should the complete the job in the allocated time (the session end time). He will answer three questions, one about the past, one about the present and one about the future.   (While time is frozen, Zolv turns Jason's drink up so it spill on him when time returns to normal)

The Headless Horseman

The party arrive and are immeditately attacked by the headless horseman. Hearing someone shouting them from the South, they run for the bridge. The woman is Katalina, and she offers the party food and rest while explaining their ordeal. The Horseman is her husband, who was killed and came back to kill his killer at his wifes behest. But he cannot stop killing now, and she needs the parties help to stop him.   In order to stop him, they need to destroy his skull. But only the weapon that killed him can do it, and it is sealed within the church.
The Church
Ophellia and Zolv teleport into the church, leaving the rest of the party back at the bridge. They find the hidden door and head into the basement. However, the tomb is guarded, and Wicked Candles and Hollow Trees attack them. The party head in to aid their companions (Zolv made a telepathic link with Darnalore). After defeating the enemies, they head into the tomb. Asog retrieves the blade and the horseman attacks them, appearing on the stairs. However, Asog resists the curse of the blade, and with a haste spell from Icarus, makes short work of the skull. With the skull destroyed, the curse lifted, the horseman dies and the challenge is over.   The Game Master appears and congratulates them. He brings them back into the dining room.

The Victory Party

Due to their expertly executed destruction of the skull and the death of the Headless Horseman, the Game Master gives them an additional reward of 100gp each. As the party feast and discuss their questions, Icarus notices the strange landscape outside the window. Ophellia recognises it from her studies as the City of Doors; Sigil.   The party spend some time discussing what questions they should ask. Party decided to sleep on it and ask the questions next session.
