Rising Koi Saga: Chapter 32 Report

General Summary

After venturing into the Minamishu forest where they had to do battle with a Giant Mantis that ambushed them, the Rising Koi drew the unwanted attention of a patrol of Goblin Beetleriders. After some tense posturing from both sides, a Goblin named Zubu killed their leader and took charge– inviting the Rising Koi as guests to meet their leader, Warlord Skurge Blacktounge. On Beetleback, the trip would be a diagonal line back east towards the mountains. What the mighty Riding Beetles couldn’t smash their way through, they would climb over. On the way, Zubu warned the Rising Koi to stay on their best manners when dealing with the Warlord, for his patience and trust of humanity was short given his history with them. He spoke of how Skurge earned his name after his tribe was imprisoned and used as fodder for training the recruits of the Heung Hu Legion. And how it was said of all, both Goblin and Human alike, he was the only one to leave in the end.   The party reached their destination by sunset– a cave where the conquered Goblin tribes had made small subterranean tent camps. These camps served as makeshift villages, separated by tribe, with the roadways between patrolled by those trusted in Blacktounge’s Warband. Villager and Guard alike watched the newcomers warily as they passed, their delve not yet complete to see the Warlord himself.   For that, they would climb upwards and through tunnels that were but four feet tall before coming to his makeshift throne room. His advisors scurried to hide away whatever it was they were presenting as Skurge looked over his new guests– at first displeased to see humans infest his home. With some careful persuasion, Yengandor showed off his magical affinity and Apollo revealed his dark skin– Something the populous took as him being blessed by Akkoro. With both revelations, Skurge would grin as he calculated their use, his interest being in using their talents to finally break down the stalemate that was the fortifications of the Akamori Homestead as he was unaware of Yengandor’s relation to the old man who was blowing up armies that tried to siege the area.   And so Skurge Blacktounge invited the Rising Koi to stay in his domain, wanting to continue their conversations in the morning. This allowed the party to learn more of the Goblin menace, from their perspective as they plotted how to eliminate the threat the Warlord posed to the lives of all that lived in the Countryside…
