Rising Koi Saga: Chapter 21 Report
General Summary
After realizing how dramatically the odds were stacked against them, the Rising Koi adventuring party reluctantly decided that discretion was the better part of valor and took their leave from the Sea Monk Tavern. As sunset quickly consumed the city, the group decided to compare their notes with Greatmother Hana. She considered their information and confirmed they were on the right path before pointing Bimbledorf upstairs where he found his new flame, Akinari, drunk from two Sake bottles she consumed herself. Here she complained to Bimbledorf about how her “idiot brother got himself arrested” and the fallout she was dealing with from this family drama. She asked him, as he was an adventurer, how much it would cost her to have the Rising Koi check on him. It appeared she didn’t have many other options as the only other person she could think of that might help her out, Arata, was nowhere she could find him. Given she only wanted information, and not for them to risk something so blatant as a Prisionbreak, they decided to do this as a simple favor– one she promised to repay at least with a bottle in thanks. The next morning there would be a far less pleasant guest waiting for them, the smug man from the Sea Monk from yesterday. As a follow-up to the previous evening’s discussion, he offered them a “recruitment job that they would find very enticing” with pay that was greater than their normal rates with the Silverguard by half. The catch, however, was they would need to permanently abandon their relationship with the Silverguard. If they chose to accept the job, they would find one of his men waiting for them outside of town that would provide further details. When the Kuromizu representative left Hana’s Teahouse, the Rising Koi considered their options before the Akamori Cousins and Apollo left to attempt to see Kujaku. After making some lackluster attempts to convince the recruit Sadao, and leaving a poor taste in his mouth of the whole affair, before returning to make their final decision with Diaono and Xiyan. After a vote, they decided that they would Refuse the Kuromizu and continue their work for the Silverguard. And with that, they went to speak with Captain Ken Katsuro. Here, in front of Lieutenant Musa and Captain Katsuro, they laid out their findings and suspicions. In return the Rising Koi was paid their standard fee, having not found the true assassin– but uncovering more of the conspiracy nonetheless, and they were told of some of the intel they have been uncovering themselves: Like Kenro’s final words written in his own blood before he passed:
