Session #7 Report

General Summary

With some new armor, but little in terms of answers within Silver Port, the party gathered at the gates of town as they debated over any final preparations for the four-hour journey into the countryside. Daiono, still reeling from his experience inside the river beast’s stomach, excused himself to catch up later-- though their mysterious healer returned from her own errands within town just in time to make the trek.   A trek that hit a snag as early as the security checkpoint to leave the city, due to Bimbledorf’s obvious intoxication on illicit substances and Apollo’s attempts to smooth over the situation by invoking the name of his grandfather. The guard didn’t seem particularly impressed by this situation, and though he wrote their names down for some reason on a separate listing, the party was free to go.   Now on the hot summer country roads beyond the walls, the party flagged down a merchant’s wagon headed into town. When asked about any problems within the nearby farming clusters that made up unnamed villages connected to the city they encircled, they were warned of the usual Goblin sightings, wild dogs, and bandits. And that Odori, a Roc that plagued the island, was spotted in the region recently.   Knowing the name and hearing rumors, though never sighting it themselves, they were understandably terrified of the notion of getting swooped up by the creature from the skies and welcomed the sight of the rundown local tavern known as The Befuddled Baku. When they entered, Yengandor was immediately reminded of the tagline of this miserable place: “Where Dreams Come To Die.” And it appeared once such a dream died with the sole patron of the bar, someone so deep in his cups that the party didn’t initially recognize the legendary gladiator Hayato “the Kamaitachi”. A man renowned for his speed in the ring ended fights before spectators had time to get drunk enough to enjoy the bloodshed. Bloodshed that the gladiator now shirked from, offering his services to pay his tab and perhaps help him back on his feet after his farm burned down so long as he could avoid violence. Xiyan was keen to capitalize on this.   After some negotiations over a bottle of sake, mostly consumed by their new employee, they had a new hire for a Koban upfront and a Koban after the job was finished. But this would not come to pass. An hour up the road a cow blocked their path. Apollo tried to smack the creature’s rear to convince it to move, but failed. Yengandor tried the same strategy, only to enrage the farm creature. As it moved to retaliate, Apollo sunk the blade of his kusarigama into the beast before a Militiaman showed up to break the assault of the creature off. Under threat of some Countryside Justice, the party was forced to surrender most of their earnings from their first job to the cow’s owner. During the chaos it seems Hayato decided that they had already breached the terms of his employment and he abandoned the party, leaving them alone with the sting of such an embarrassment as they continued on the last leg of their journey towards the Akamori Homestead...
