Rising Koi Saga: Chapter 27 Report
General Summary
Though only back in town for a day, having left their friends Arata and Meh in the care of the Akamori where they might help against a Goblin onslaught, there is not a day of rest for the Rising Koi adventuring party. Their slumber is disturbed by Akinari, back in full Silverguard uniform and with news of another suspected play of the Kuromizu Clan. The Silverguard has called for one of their favored adventuring party, with Akinari filling them in on the way: Another body has been fished from the docks this morning with similar injuries to Okaji, a mysterious group of five guards escorted Kujaku towards Silverhold– and that was the last they had contact with the Silverguard Docks. Scouts report men on the palisades, but they won’t respond to anyone who tries to get their attention. Sergeant Seiji Yuta thinks this is all connected somehow, but he needs more answers before he does anything rash. And so he has hired the party to investigate and to warn his father. To carry out their mission, the Rising Koi have come to the realization that they need a Boat to travel upriver. They received permission to commandeer one if they so chose, but would be on a fine line as the Silverguard needed to remain the lawful force of order within the city. So our band of adventurers decided on another method, that of purchasing a boat themselves– something they hoped would prove a wise investment in the future. To do so, they discovered a strange makeshift casino that formed in the absence of anything better to do– and while the Kuromizu clan shift their attention away from their lucrative business towards the aims of claiming the very city as their prize. After proving themselves promising customers, the Rising Koi found lady luck to be on their side, amassing 47 Kobans, and getting a lead on someone who they could buy out of his stifling misfortune. A Sampan, a vehicle known to be a source of transportation and a modest home, could go for as much as 250 Kobans… but some sleuthing and well-placed words allowed them to sail away with their new purchase at the cost of 150. What this new investment could mean for them in the future? They weren’t certain yet, but it would allow them to carry on their mission. First stop? The Silverguard Docks, to find out what happened this morning that could make such a fortified position in the city go silent….
