Session 3: Dealings

General Summary

Before going to Evik, Kleek requested that you make a quick stop in Brample, a city in the Enchantment Islands, to help him smuggle in drugs to his old friend, Gnives Chau the Gnome. Brample is most famous for being the centre of Nama (giant psychic catfish) training but also has its drug distribution completely controlled by the Pirate's Coven. Gnives wrote to Kleek saying that he wanted to change this and give the citizens more choice, so Kleek agreed to bring him a fuckton of unicorn dust. It is a big risk since this branch of the Pirate's Coven would kill Kleek onsite, which is why he hired the protagonists to help him out and protect them.   Del, Sieg, Blue, and Circe managed to hide the drugs in barrels of food and get past the military's security and into the empty bar where they were supposed to meet Gnives. There was a few hours of waiting for Gnives to show up, so they scouted the area and found letters between Kleek and Gnives from years ago which revealed that they both used to work for the Pirate's Coven but had differing views and revolted. Kleek killed the previous leader and had to flee, leaving Gnives behind. While people were looking inside, Circe's phoenix scouted and found that there were a few people in the vicinity that seemed to be paying close attention to the bar.   When the time came, Circe, who kept post outside, saw a huge figure in a cloak march towards the bar. She let the rest who were inside know, and Kleek instantly became nervous. He originally asked Del to be present and to help with the deal, but he used his last Disguise Self scroll to change her appearance and told her not to speak.   The figure entered the bar and revealed himself to be a huge demon. Gnives poked his head out of a portal coming from the demons chest. He inspected the drugs and was pleased and paid Kleek the money, but said this was not everything he asked for.   "Where's the Cleric, Kleek?"   The conversation that ensued inferred that Kleek had been planning on trading Del to Gnives in order to clear his name with the Pirate's Coven and secure his freedom to roam Vithala. But Kleek turned it around and refused to give up Del. Circe noticed that the people she had scouted earlier began to move: putting on triple eyed masks that seemed to give them eldritch powers.   A battle and chase broke out with the protagonists trying to flee and get within range of teleporting back to the ship. They fought against what appeared to be warlock, barbarian, and gunner members of the Pirate's Coven, along with the powerful demon that hosted Gnives. They protagonists were mind controlled and struck down many times, including Kleek, who Del saved twice. At one point, the two warlocks summoned the giant three eyed skeletal eel that Circe had seen in the vision in The Garden of Prophecy and Memory. Despite all the difficulties, the protagonists managed to escape.   Kleek apologized to Del, explaining that the Coven wanted a powerful Necromancer so they could bring that eel, the Sea Monster they worship, back to life. But even in exchange for his freedom, Kleek could not give her up. After forcing him to give them more money than usual to cover the emotional trauma, and after a good slap from Del, they kindasorta forgave him, and travelled back to D'Voire Rejarde, where Liam and Ezre were waiting with Swetha's Core.   After doing some research with the Halflings in New Neffleton, she discovered that the place she saw in her Memory was the fallen city of Neffleton, sunk and claimed by Water Elementals.
