Session One Report

Missions/Quests Completed

Missions completed during Session One:    "Tears Among the Tombs" -The party made its way to the oldest mausoleum in the Swiftwind Family Cemetery and eventually followed the sounds of haunting sobs and unnatural shrieks to the lowest level of the structure. There they discovered that an Elder Banshee had been trapped in a passage below the mausoleum's lowest level and had dug its way up through the floor in search of fresh prey, which it slowly had to venture further and further out of the mausoleum in order to find. With some excellent teamwork, the party dispatched the creature and presented its remains to Arthur, who was rather surprised and amused to see that the party had found such a grotesque monster on the property. Arthur added that he would add an extra sum to your pay when you leave Lannora Ivy in compensation for slaying the banshee.    *The Silver Stag* -In a daring combination horse race and game hunt, Garou, Mira, Fiscus, Red, Silus, and Margaret all took off after the Silver Stag, each racing to claim the prey. Garou cast a masterful series of spells allowing him to communicate with and calm the creature, which turned out to be much larger and more magnificent up close than it had appeared when the group saw it briefly on the race track. Also taking the lead in the horse race, Garou found the stag and approached it first, but was upstaged by Silus, who was able to tame the Silver Stag and ride it back to Lannora Ivy. Silus presented the animal to Elspeth Swiftwind, who was incredibly charmed, and the young woman led Silus and the Stag to the stables to make the creature at home. Garou was not at all pleased by these developments and skipped dinner that night.    "A Bump In the Night" -Multiple thuds as well as laughter and a shattering of glass were heard; while Carlo and Samantha getting drunk and lovemaking was making most of the racket, they were not responsible for the sound of broken glass. Mira and Garou later found small pieces of broken glass near a column where a glass vase previously stood, but the vase itself was gone. This led the pair to conclude that the vase had been broken and then cleaned up by someone who neglected to spot the smaller pieces near the base of the column. This person was not discovered, and the two adventurers returned to bed.  -While searching a simple pine crate in Arthur's study, Garou discovered multiple old documents through which he traced a trial of Margaret assisting Victor in financial matters throughout the end of his life. Margaret also signed paperwork as a witness which certified the contingencies of Victor's wills, which were to be put into effect under certain circumstances. Since Victor still believed Arthur was alive when he died, he left behind a will that would take priority over any other version if Arthur should return to claim his birthright, leaving everything to Arthur. That is exactly what happened, and when Victor's original will superseded his new one Edward was stripped of a vast family fortune, control of his family's estate, and the title of Lord of Oaksleigh. -During their search for the source of the noises, Garou and Mira broke into Arthur's study and found a secret passage in the back of a cabinet that led to a secret training room and secret office beneath the study. These are revealed to be the secret rooms discovered by Silus' spiders during "Rats!", and contained a number of intriguing objects- in the training room there were straw training dummies, a heavy bag, and various training equipment; in the office, there was an antique mirror, a painting of a pirate ship made of ebony wood, pieces of a splintered ebony wood beam in a crate, a magical marble containing a scene of Arthur singing to a lover, and a chest full of old clothing of Arthur's. Stranger still was the next discovery Garou and Mira made; a dried corpse walled up behind a wardrobe in the office that had recently been discovered and gnawed open by rats. On closer examination, this corpse was found to be that of a woman wearing high-quality seafaring attire and a pair of gold and emerald earrings that appeared to be the third piece to the set passed down by Arthur's grandmother.    "Brotherly Love" -By repeatedly playing on the disdain between Arthur and Edward, Garou has already mostly convinced Arthur that Edward stole Tomasina's engagement necklace. When leaving the secret office, Garou left a note signed as Edward near the evidence of his break-in alongside Mira, virtually sealing Edward's fate in the eyes of his brother.

Quests opened during Session One:    "The Woman With the Earrings"- Who was the corpse found inside the wall of Arthur's secret office? Why did she have Arthur's grandmother's earrings?    "Secrets Forged in Blood"- Mira is onto Garou- she knows that he knows something about Arthur's secrets, and she desperately wants to find out what. Whether she can get the information from the mercenary directly or not, Mira isn't giving up on trying to discover what happened when her friend and former lover disappeared.    "A Bump in the Night"- Garou and Mira investigated strange noises that awakened them during the night.

Notes

Mira toyed with the piano in the Main Hall as the party was arriving from the horse race and Red Lightning was entering the mansion for the first time, and Garou followed this up by picking out a ditty of his own. The two then wrapped up with a lovely little duet which went over quite well.    After Red showed Arthur the head of the Elder Banshee, Arthur suggested that the party let the stable boy, Rory, know that the creature is dead and he can return to visiting his mother's grave.    Arthur and Mira slipped away into Arthur's study to discuss the abrupt end to their relationship, although they did not outright discuss their feelings for each other. Arthur admitted that the ring Mira found with the inscription "The Heart of the Sea" was always meant for her and that Arthur would have proposed with that ring. After his disappearance, Arthur went on to give his grandmother's earrings to his second love and her necklace to his third, Tomasina. However, the entire set was originally intended for Mira, with the ring signifying the couple's engagement. Before heading to dinner, Arthur tells Mira that she was always the heart of the sea to him and that the ring with the same inscription is hers; if she wants it, it is hers to take and do with as she will. Garou and Red successfully eavesdrop on this entire conversation, although only Garou gets caught because Red is invisible. While sneaking around, Garou was spotted by both Templeton and Mildred, but they neither seemed suspicious nor interfered.    At dinner, Fiscus sparks an outburst from Edward, who snaps at Arthur about reappearing to claim his inheritance only days after their father's death and then calls Tomasina a slut and storms out. This ultimately only assists Garou's plot to frame Edward for Garou's misdeeds throughout the manor so far.
