Session VI: The ant-hill Report

General Summary

The party having received the quest from Serode set on towards the forest north-east of town. A large ant has been attacking people and animals on sight and needs to be delt with.   The sound of laughter approaches the party as they are walking down the forest road. Children from wing eagle run by chasing each other "Tag! you're it!" says one as it runs past one of the other children. Dena runs after them, quickly getting tagged and trying to tag one back. After a minute darting around along the path in the bushes. "Dena! We haven't got the time for this!" he shouted out to her as she tagged another one of the youngsters. "We have to find that beast and slay it so we can get our reward." Dena returned towards the rest of the party, continuing their way.   After walking for a few hours a figure appears from around a bend further down the road. A small goblin, sunken deep in thought, looking over his glasses on a paper. "Ahh travelers! might you have come from a town just recently? I swear there should be one not much further." "Hello there, sir? ehm.." Rhogar started. "Zas, you can call me Zas." The goblin replied. "Ah well met Zas, we just came from a small vilage, Wing Eagle, not far from here." "Wing Eagle you say? from the direction you came? impossible, Wing Eagle is roughly five days away from the direction I came from." "Are you sure?" Dena asked "because we came from a village not a few hours ago and that one was called Wing Eagle." "No, no it seems like you are lost. that would be Media. I should know, I'm the best cartographer in the world." "Say, Zas was it? Could you show us your map?" "but of course, erm.." "Rhogar" "Ah, but of course Rhogar! my pleasure." Zas replies as he hands over a map with one single dotted line and a marker exlaiming "Me".   After trying to convince Zas of the place he is heading to the party gives up and continues on their way to fight the ant. After traveling some more sharp cracks and the sound of a tree falling sounds throughout the forest making birds scatter into the air. "Anyone knows what that was?" Azubuike asked the party. "No idea but it sounds close." Dena replied. "Let's wait and create an ambush." Rhoghar proposed as he started gathering heart berries from surrounding bushes, creating a bloodlike paste to lure the predator.   After waiting for several minutes nothing happened. "Maybe we should continue onward. " Dena proposed. As the party continues on their way, wary of their surroundings they happen upon a clearing with mulled over terrain, wide and deep holes in the ground and felled trees lying about. Investigating the place led to no particular findings.   Having inspected the clearing itself Rhogar decides to investigate one of the holes. Creating a torch to throw in. As he steps closer a sudden tremble under his feet starts and shifts the ground underneath. Rhogar is thrown to the side but quickly regains his footing an enormous Ankheg bellow while raising itself in its full length.   The party fights a though, long battle having to battle the Ankheg and a smaller female Ankheg that later joined the fight. But, they managed to emerge victorious grabbing the chitin as a trophy.   As the party leaves the clearing Zas approaches, clearly still lost. The party and Zas return to Wing Eagle where they deliver the Chitin and get their reward from Serode.
