Plenty of map creation tools out there. If WorldAnvil was to delve into this kind of project, it'd take away way too much dev time for fixing and/or upgrading the site itself.
I would only actually vote for this if this is a passion project or something for one of the devs; otherwise no, I do not support it.
There's plenty of other software to do this, and adding something like this to World Anvil would probably be very complicated.
Like Michael Chandra have already sad the leave it wo others to make a map editor. Im not sure what the status is right now but i remember that the talked in the live stream with the devs of dungeonfog about a linking of WA and Project DEIOS. But it will take some time befor the devs of PD will be able to do that.
Web-based map-making options are universally atrocious. I would not want that on Worldanvil. If you need a map-maker, use any of the downloadable options like DungeonDraft, WonderDraft, Cartographer etc or just use GIMP/Photoshop. No thank you.
WorldAnvil leaves that to others and will link some mapbuilding tools they like whenever there's a challenge involving maps.
What Cammykins said, I think others are right in that it would be a fair bit of programming to implement though it would be cool to see, but Cammykins suggestion of tying in an existing software getting rid of the need to import and being able to work straight off of here would be fantastic. Might need another vote though to get it to pass.
either that or tie into an existing map making program so that you don't have to leave and import any maps
Hey, I'd like as much as the next person to consolidate all my needs onto one website, but mapmaking softwares are COMPLEX. Given the fact that the team is so small and they have the whole worldbuilding/character creation angle to focus on, I doubt this is within reach at this time.
This is really something that is better managed on other software, and then posted in WA with pins. Dungeonfog/Deios, Inkarnate - these are dedicated mapmaking programs that are constantly being updated, and have options for commercial use (in books, etc.).
There are plenty of other sites that can be used to create maps. Adding that feature here would not only be redundant, but extremely difficult coding-wise and time consuming.
