time date
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
At present, the Related Historical Events automatically linked to articles only display the year of the event. While this saves space, it can be a problem when all (or at least many) of the historical events take place within one or two years. You end up with a long list of events with no discernable difference in date. It looks awkward at best, broken at worst.
It would be great if we had an option to set the format of the dates displayed. Maybe just a toggle to include day and month, maybe a selection of formats including "YYYY/MM/DD" (or however many characters you'd need for each), maybe something more freeform.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
If we can set the date format for the related events section, we can adjust for both articles (or worlds) with events across many years, and articles with events focused in just a few.
What are other uses for this feature request?
None that I can think of.
Follow up
As ddaniel said, if a toggle wouldn't work, just increasing the default level of precision (whether with numbers for month and day, or down to the second) would be very helpful.
The Team's Response
Hello there, thank you for these suggestions! For the display of the date, there are design constraints due to the current width of the side bar - So we will be implementing a mouseover that shows the full date. Although this is a different feature you are asking for, we will also be making updates to timelines and maps that will affect date displays.
