Add Category setting to manage Table of Content link functionality

I noticed when editing a category that I could have a lot of control over how I wanted that category to look in the Design section. However, when I was testing this I noticed that it only would appear when I would click on the symbol to load that specific category and not the text hyperlink which dropped down the articles within that category.   That got me wondering if it would be possible to add a new option in the Design or Display sections of the Category which would allow me to customize what happens when a person clicks on the text hyperlink. This way I can decide if I would like to have the dropdown list of articles (or sub categories) displayed or to just have the category page loaded.

The Team's Response

Very low support, probably it is not a very clear definition of where and when and how the issue that is currently solving will be tackled.

This is actually something that I realised recently as well. To circumvent this, I haven't found another solution aside from building my own table of contents and create an article that has the same structure as the category page I would have created. To me, it also kind of defeats the point to have a category page that people won't even get to see, because intuitively, who exactly would click on that symbol instead of just using the dropdown menu? Not many people I would assume. I never bothered clicking on that symbol to look at the category page and never even realised what it meant before trying out category design for myself.

I think the way the category is formatted when selecting from the codex tree view does make a great deal of sense, because it retains the overall navigation tree making it easier for viewers not to get lost. Having said that, there are definitely times when the full category page is what you want to look at. I feel that should be the choice of the viewer rather than the designer, though. Currently AFAIK you can only do this by clicking on the parent hyperlink provided within a child category (category x is IN caregory y and y is a hyperlink). Maybe an improvement would be to provide a "self" link on the category summary pane which shows from the treeview, rather than having to drill down which is a bit convoluted. So make category x AND category y hyperlinks in that pane with the former opening up the full category page for x, just as the latter does for y.
