Add 'naming conventions' section under naming traditions tab in ethnicity article

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

In the ethnicity article template the first tab of custom template content is called 'naming traditions', but the following sections only really seem geared towards lists of names, with how they're titled as 'male names' 'female names' 'unisex names' 'family names' and 'other names'. That would be considered the "traditional names" tab, not the "naming traditions" tab. I would like a section for describing the actual traditions of naming in a culture-- the naming conventions! This is a HUGE aspect that's missing! And sure, you could technically write about that in the generic 'common customs' section in the customs tab, but come on, you have an entire tab for naming traditions and nowhere to write down the actual traditions themselves, just the names!

How does this feature request address the current situation?

All I need is one extra box at the top of the naming traditons tab called "naming conventions". Simple, but could cover a vast expanse of topics, including customs or rituals for how names are chosen, why they choose the names they do, the signifigance of names, whether name changes, nicknames or affectionates are common in the culture, all things like that and more. It would be a lot more flexible, and a lot more intuitive for detailed worldbuilding about names than just assorted lists.

What are other uses for this feature request?

It could also be helpful in the instance that someone has a shorter list of names that they would rather not divvy up between the seperate sections based on mostly gender, or if they want to contain all their general naming/names information to just one box. Other than that it's kind of specific, but still, this would be a greatly appreciated addition.

The Team's Response

Thanks for your suggestion! This definitely makes sense, so a naming traditions field will be added. The current fields won't change, because this would mean suddenly changing all Ethnicity articles that are using them.

I mean, what's stopping you from going 'Male names: Men tend to be named after metals and other sturdy objects'? I always saw that part as 'the naming traditions for X', not purely 'examples of X', so it already works for what you're asking for.

I've solved this problem by creating a "Naming Traditions" header at the bottom of the vignette, but it was literal years before that occurred to me. Having this as an existing field at the top of the naming section would make it a clear option for worldbuilders with cultures that give names according to, say, social class rather than gender, or have species with more complicated gender divisions. I realize that the "other names" field is meant to address these possibilities, but it looks odd for that to be the only naming section to appear in a completed article, which is why I skipped the provided fields altogether.

As a person with detailed naming traditions for cultures I created I fully agree with this!
