This would be useful as I use world anvil for storytelling and worldbuilding more than I do for trpgs.
Off-setting a few negative coins below.
While I can kind of see what you’re getting at, I also feel like it wouldn’t really be worth the effort, as you can literally just ignore the RPG elements. Like, the base templates aren’t all that RPG-y, and anything that is you can just not fill out and it won’t display.
Let's not be too harsh to those that have not discovered where to turn RPG features off, it is quite well hidden. I believe that this suggestion shows the need to have a switch to have RPG elements on or off (with a message that it can be changed any time) at the start of a world's creation to give new users better ease of access to the site ^^ (If that's already a thing then I'm sorry, it's been quite long since I made a new world.)
As someone who uses WA for my writing and NOT RP elements, I would love this. There's a lot of potential here, but so many features lacking for the manuscript aspects of the platform. I love this.
I am a fiction writer myself and you can already do all of the things mentioned here with ease, including turning off RPG features with the flip of a switch.
And let's not forget the new Kindlevella Serial format. This is a big "yes" for me.
As a book writer I WANT THIS
Your suggestion just mostly leaves me confused. More specific details would be really appreciated.
Pretty sure this is already a thing. Just go to account features and either enable or disable RPG Features
I'm not sure exactly what the original OP feels could be better for story writers here? I fall into this category myself and it is easy enough to just ignore the RPG specific attributes when creating a character article and then they just aren't displayed. The text prompts provide plenty of space and inspiration for noting down everything I want to about my character (and usually more than I want to) and I can quickly set up a stub and fill in whatever details I want later. As for the history, you can link characters to events on a timeline which is one good way for readers to dive into your world's backstory and find your character articles. Another is to create summary articles and link characters from there. Or both. Then there are whiteboards for plotting, too. Would be happy to support a more specific request if I could be convinced something useful was missing but I'm not sure what....
Hi, this request is difficult to support because it is very vague and very wide. PArts of it are already possible as well.- You can hide all RPG specific features in the account features menu.
- World Anvil is specialized in worldbuilding, not running RPG games.
- I don't see how the character template is not useful for novel writers.
- You can use the Whiteboards and Plot templates for plotting.
And how would marking a world as part of a speciifc novel, comec or tv series be useful? World Anvil can't really keep a list of all the novels being written on / featured on WA. It is up to you to make it clear from the homepage what your WA page is for. RPG Campaigns don't get too many specialized tools for this either. And I've seen many novel writers who promote their books on their homepage and then have additional infos in the world. If you are unclear on how to use the tools world anvil provides to achieve your goals consider joining the Discord server where you can find many other creatives to have a chat and exchange ideas!
