google-docs importing
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
Keeping this brief.
World Anvil provides a service that is very useful, but it's hamstrung by it's limited text editor. World Anvil uses BBCode, a text format introduced in 1998, on a website that has a lot of features, doodads, and other things that wouldn't work on a machine that old. There are other text editors, other ways of implementing and aggravating data in this modern age.
Most of these that are easy to use also use aformat handled innately by html, leading to easy format copy and pasting. This also exists in file formats like .rtf. One would think that World Anvil, a website that relies entirely on text and formatting, would have such in a easy to implement and/or import format.
That is not the case, at the moment.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
People can still use World Anvil, and can create articles and pages that are easy to change over from one format to another. At the moment, most have to struggle with automatic converters or, worse, reformatting everything by hand, because World Anvil's innate text editor has a few issues of it's own that is beyond the scope of this request.
What are other uses for this feature request?
It would offset the need to use World Anvil on the website exclusively, saving server bandwidth, phone ram for those of us that edit articles on their smaller devices, and people from stress headaches.
Follow up
Please just straight up add a way to import Rich Text. Fixing the text editor would be nice, but a proprietary text editor will always pale in comparison to the tools a community can cook up.
The Team's Response
Thank you for this suggestion! To clarify, we use BBCODE because of its flexibility and ease, not because the technology is outdated (it isn't). We want people to have resources to do what they want with ease. All the same, We know the editor has issues, we'll fix this rather than creating an importer. If you have technical knowledge, you can create an app for that using our API! We look forward to your message.
